Show CHURCH gi ILL RUSH WORK alterations being made on tabernacle plans are adopted for parking and beautifying portion of city square in beg beginning ining the work of altering the entrance to the gallery of the se viar stake tabernacle taber mcle the members of the building committee ind their employees made the first move moe tuesday morning in carri yng out the he plan for effecting extended ct ended improvements which arc were adopted by the stake officers last summer if the revolutions had to doon do oab willitee WIL anh lithe the tabernacle bermele ta building they would be commendable com but fortunately tuna tely they are not limited to that portion of the charen property for contemplate the parking and beautifying of the lot on which the tabernacle is located and this is a goodly fraction of what serves as the cites public square plans fur for the work on the grounds have already been adopted and all of the necessary material has been provided some of the supplies were ordered several A weeks ago and are now on the grounds while others are kept in stock by local firms and can be N when ben needed among the importations is the material for the ornamental iron fence which is to enclose the grounds on the east and south A wire fence not quite as costly as that which is to be placed on the frontage of the property but none the less will be constructed between betwee ii the church and city lots on oil the north and west of the tabernacle grounds these fences will be installed without vit hout delay and the work of beautifying the grounds will be rushed to completion the force of workmen recently employed by the vari various outs tabernacle com attee began making alterations on oil the interior of the building early tuesday morning they are at present engaged in altering the entrance to the gallery and will afterwards make some alterations on the clenor of the structure there has long been some doubt in the minds of the church authorities as to the ability of the congregations to pass from the gallery without ci dent in case of emergency emer gancy and after due deliberation they determined tint that it would be possible sible to make improvements winch vituld remore ill all danger these alterations contemplate the construction st of two 3 3 foot doors one at the irit landing of each stairway which will provide an approach ap to the side aisles that have been in use since the building was erected the doo which leads to the gillery will vill be enlarged into a 10 foot arched doorway but instead of permittie the congregation to piss through the side aisles it will open upon a 1 wide continued on eight page CHURCH WILL RUSH WORK continued from first page staircase leading to the rear of the gallery this will necessitate the removal of the last row of seats in the middle tier in the gallery angwill and will also bring about some alterations in the approach to the belfry the latter room will be provided with seats and will be pressed into service when the briding is crowded the changes mentioned will be made as a matter of convenience and safety besides making the interior alterations the have decided to tear down the heavy stone gables on the north and south and substitute iron lath and cement because it has been found that the stone walls at these points are settling and it will be necessary to install lighter material the cement work is to be an imitation of the original design and will therefore not alter the appearance of the building it is estimated that the work on the structure will be finished within a month and that the parking and beautifying of the grounds will be brought to completion by may 1 naturally there will be several gates leading to the doors of the taber nancie janeie they will be made of iron to correspond with the ornamental fences the princ principal gate for the entrance of pedestrians pede arians will be located at the southeast corner while t 0 large double gates will admit teams and carriages at the northeast and southwest corners of bethe the grounds gravel walks and driveways will traverse the lot and lawns and shrub bery and lower flower beds will take the place of the red soil which has heretofore been so much in evidence two committees have charge of the work which is being done on the property they are the tabernacle committee and the building committee the members of the former are parley magleby J M peterson and joseph ogden and the members of the build iniz ine committee are A G young john kyhl and J C anderson |
