Show audubon society urges protection of native birds bird lovers of the rocky mountain tali district especially around utah were warned that unless the necessary precautions were taken to afford the birds needed protection the country would soon be without native birds this warning was sounded out by john H baker executive director of the national association of audubon societies to a group of interested sportsmen who were gathered at the university of utah mr baker was especially concerned cc med over the tha plight of the white pelican is one of the rarest and most v valuable birds native to the state of utah the pelican said mr air baker is facing slow but absolute extinction and unless some steps are taken in the very near future for its protection this state will soon saon have no pelicans at all A fund was proposed by mr baker who personally volunteered for the purpose of hiring guards to protect the white pelican during its nesting season so that a full crop of young may be hatched to continue the tion A chapter of the audubon society was proposed for utah by mr baker and a committee was chosen with dr A M woodbury of the zoology department of the university of utah as temporary chairman plans for the organization are now under way and a meeting will be held in the near future which al all I 1 bird lovers are arc urged to attend j |
