Show F HS J or john R adams gives account of journey covering miles the richfield high school future farmers returned home sunday july 21 after having traveled for sixteen days through seven of the states of the pacific northwest and the intermountain region covering thirty five hundred miles this group of fifty five boys and adults of the richfield chapter of future farmers of america under the leadership of john R adams chapter adviser left richfield july 6 they were welcomed at the state capital by governor henry H blood of utah who posed for a picture with the boys and bade them godspeed god speed on their trip the first night was spent on the campus of the U S A C where the state supervisor LR L R humphreys welcomed them with arrangements for a swim in the college pool the second night found them at the old faithful camp in yellowstone national park the next day the group moved leisurely through yellowstone low stone seeing such points of interest as yellowstone lake and river where a number of the boys were fortunate in catching fish the grand canyon and the thrilling scenes of yellowstone falls and the mammoth hot springs during the trip from north junction to mammoth two bull moose were seen been the first that most of the group had ever seen at mammoth two of the boys had the thrilling experience of having a bear offer his services in helping them get their breakfast the following day the group left the park by way of the north entrance and were fortunate in seeing a herd of antelope the group spent the noon hour on the campus of the montana state agricultural ri college at bozeman where professor ross miller and J 0 showed the group over the fine livestock of the college and the herd of lester H thompson who is one of the fore continued on page 8 future morning traveling across montana and camping that night at couer d lene idaho a lumber town from couer d lene the group traveled west through spokane across the soft wheat section of washington to the project eject of the grand coulee dam which is better than twice the size alze project of the boulder dam and the biggest project ever under taken by man they visited the carnation farms where R E everly manager of the farm gave the fellows a royal welcome by furnishing them au all the milk they could drink tho the three meals they were there and showing them through the barns where the outstanding producers of the holstien breed were seen the carnation dairy farm owns head of holstein Hol cattle and milks cows one of the most educational features of the stay at carnation was seeing the four outstanding bulls of the breed inks inka the great carnation matador masterpiece sir inka may and governor of carnation many of the group expressed themselves to the effect that the trip to carnation dairy farms arms was well worth the cost of the entire trip early the morning of july 12 the bo boys ys went to seattle boar boarded ded the streamline ferry kalaska and went across puget sound to brem erton where they were shown through h the U S navy yard from seattle they traveled to portland where C L nielson Nl elson a former resident of sanpete co coun L ty guided them through many points of interest in and about portland including the famous lambert gardens from there the group traveled up the famous columbia river highway to the cascade locks and the bonneville dam where DA D A spice one of the government engineers who is known by many people of richfield showed tho the group through the workings Vor kings of this mammoth project the group camped that night on the banks of the columbia river and left the next morning for the south they spent the noon ho hour ur at cornwallis Cor Con wallis vallis oregon on the campus of the oregon state agricultural college where the boys were shown the courtesy of a nice swim in the beautiful pool of that college the camp that night was found on the shores of the pacific ocean near Wall port oregon where a number had the experience of doing a little crabbing the following morning july 15 the group traveled down the east cast shore of the pacific to port orford the home of the famous port orford cedar that night found them at crescent city california the following day they traveled through the famous redwood forests that night camped at aldah a famous wine producing section the next day the group stopped in Pet petaluma aluma california long enough to visit the hatchery and from there to san francisco via the bausili to ferry they were shown through many points of interest in san francisco by bishop nalder of one of the L D S wards chinatown cliff house and seal rocks the presidio the zoo at golden gate park the embarks daro and a trip to the top of twin peaks were included in the tour the group then took the oakland ferry and witnessed the new bridge that will span the bay by way of goat island to oakland that night found them at vaca ville and from there they journeyed through sacramento and over the johnson pass of the nevadas to lake tahoe they then traveled through carson city and austin and the lehman caves in nevada from lehm lehman an the gr group headed home by way of mlford
