Show PIONEER OR AND civic LEADER oils AT HOME HERE funeral services will be conducted next sunday for mrs W P payne mrs caroline henry payne pioneer educator and civic leader of southern utah and wife of william porter payne died at her home biome here shortly after six this morning following a years illness mrs payne was born at fillmore october 25 1866 a daughter of robert and elizabeth bacon henry she attended school at fillmore and at the age of 17 taught school at kingston in 1883 jn in 1884 she helped organize the Iff lilard stake academy at fill inore together with the late alma greenwood in the fall of 1888 she was called to assist in organizing the sanpete stake academy she taught school at fillmore in 1890 her marriage to william porter payne took place in the wanti manti temple april 29 1891 anton H lund performing the ceremony mony her church activities included the work of choir leader and organist for the fillmore ward the family lived at fill anore until 1911 when they moved to richfield mrs payne was an active leader in civic and club work in richfield she affiliated herself with the kl ri hh id study club of which she served as president two terms to 1930 she was the san pete te sevier director of the utah federation of clubs from 1929 to 1932 she had served as a member of the richfield public library board several years surviving besides her husband are three sons william legrande payne of salt lake city wendell henry payne of oakland california and carroll payne of richfield one grandson and a sister mrs E S hinckley of provo funeral services will be held in in the richfield second ward chapel at 2 p m sunday december 8 |
