Show fitting programs mark observance of memorial day in spite of the rather unfavorable showers at 11 a m the hour when memorial day services were scheduled at the richfield city cemetery the jensen colby post american legion carried forward their program in tribute to the honored soldier dead ferdinand erickson of monroe who had been asked to give the oration understood that the program had been cancelled because of weather conditions but major henry E beat beal gave a brief but very fine address the band under direction of M L done played appropriate prop selections and while taps was sounded a minute of silent meditation was observed the invocation was offered by J R barker and the benediction by dr T R gledhill the salute was fired by a squad from battery batter y E field artillery flags were were placed on all soldiers graves at the pioneer cemetery a program was held at 10 a in with patriarch H J hansen in charge the band played a selection J A jackman offered the invocation jas M peterson made a few remarks fitting the occasion the band again played while mayor W L warner wamer raised the flag on the newly erected flag pole As usual on such occasions many former residents joined richfield people in placing memorial flowers on the graves of their loved ones |
