Show JUNIOR COLLEGES dr C N jensen state superintendent te of public instruction announces that a committee appointed by him is preparing pie paring aring a bill providing for the establishment of junior colleges in utah this bill to be submitted to the state legislature which started deliberations this week A proposal of this kind should interest us for several reasons the principal one of them being educational and financial considerations the junior colleges would be intermediary 1 terme diary institutions between the high schools and the three lodged ledged full colleges colle geh of the st state ate the JUniver university sity of utah the brigham young university and the utah agricultural college the aim to receive higher education has become so wide spread lately that the three above named colleges ale aie if not overcrowded at least crowded to capacity and the colleges all over the united states have the same expert once the individual student cannot get the same line attention in a collego college that has to deal daal with several thousand students as he can in a smaller institution like we have in the state in the bianch bi cinch A C at cedar city in the snow college in the westminster college and other semiprivate semi private vate institutions if we had more such junior colleges preparing their students to become graduate students in the higher institutions it would be better for the students as well as for those big universities it is clear that considered from an educational cat ional standpoint the establishment of some more junior colleges in some of the counties of utah jin would be ba a great advantage 1 i As to financial consideration those cities whole such junior colleges would be located would leap benefits from the students attracted to the respective locations it would be mighty fortunate for richfield if our city were chosen to have a junior college established here there is no 1 doubt that the locations will be selected on geographical lines and in this respect richfield would be a logical location the three high schools of our county are graduating almost enough students to support a junior college leaving the san pete territory entirely to the snow college which is known for doing excellent e cel lent work we still would have the high schools of wayne diute piute garfield and kane counties and perhaps those of millard county to send students to a junior colle college re in richfield the legislators ofa of sevier county S M 21 jorgensen in the house and W T owens jr in the senate should thele fole keep an eye on this bill and in due time should be encouraged by the people of our county to work for the location of a junior college colleg e in our city |
