Show HIGH SCHOOL 0 0 preparation for arbor day A special assembly was called at 1115 to plan our program for arbor day it was agreed that we should spend the forenoon in filling the unsightly hole at the north side of 0 the building and dig a cesspool for the drainage of the shower bath from the gym the afternoon was to he be spent in the way the students desired some wanted to go up the canyon while others hinted at a swim and lunch at the hot springs A compromise was therefore necessary we were to have lunch at the canyon and then those who desired could return and have a swim in the hot springs each class was to be divided into squads with a leader at the head bead of each and all boys were to bri bring 11 9 some implement which could be used effectively in moving dirt due to the high rate of efficiency of the H day vigilance committee they were chosen to act again on this particular day tho the rules and regulations were about the same as on H day as to promptness and working until the job was finished the punishments were to be the same also namely first offense ducked to the shoulders in a tub 0 of water second offense ducked to the waist third offense ducked all over and fourth of tense offense drowned the remainder of the time was given to the individual classes t to 0 make their special preparations for arbor day dr woodward talks another assembly was called at for the purpose of hearing an address by dr woodward of the B Y U first miss johnson sang us a well weil chosen song the which is always liked and appreciated especially ally when such a congester son gester as she sings them dr woodward occupied the rest of the time among other facts he told us that statistics show that every day we spend in school is worth nine dollars to us he compared life to a checkerboard and told us that we must start right and play a consistent game if we expect to reach the king row we enjoyed his speech b very much r r ro ITY erIN tr 1 and a n I 1 am sure we received some information and encouragement that will prove of benefit to us immediately after assembly dr woodward woo dward met the seniors and juniors and encouraged them to continue their school work he outlined to them the courses of the B Y U and the summer school which it is conducting this year superintendent ashman also gave a few welcome remarks of praise and encouragement to the graduating class assembly tuesday the first business of this assembly was to officially postpone arbor lay day due to the sudden change of tho the weather and temperature for the worse then we were reminded that next tuesday april 22 is the date set for nominations ot of student body officers for next year so that we might be thinking over the likely candidates and be able to uphold our thoughts prank frank tuft in behalf of 0 mr frank H king then presented to the senior class a framed pictures containing the individual pictures of all those who will graduate this year miles files tuft senior president received the effi gift and then in turn presented it to the school to serve as a memory of the class of 24 student body president neldon webb received the token from the senior class and promised that it should be kept in the school as a reminder of the he t graduating class we wish to thank mr king tor for his very appropriate gitt gift and assure him that we really appreciate it to the fullest extent and that wo we will remember him along with the senior class of 24 every time we see the picture to conclude the program of the assembly we asked helen hunt and wendell anderson who had just returned from the U A 0 on club project work to relate some of their experiences while there they certainly must have had an enjoyable time whether they learned anything or not if all they told us was true and of course it was opera at the school opera in old louisiana was presented in elsinore EI monday night to a record breaking crowd and after the audience had departed an orchestra appeared as if U by magic and all members of the opera enjoyed a lively c costume 0 dance until the midnight ha hour ur richfield presents opera last wednesday the richfield high school presented at monroe their opera entitled the marriage of nannette 11 there was a large appreciative audience in attendance the opera was truly all that it was cracked up to be the principal characters were evidently well chosen and well trained and we congratulate them on their splendid performance for mance A short assembly was called thursday to notify the students that arbor day would be had on friday unless the weather again interfered and that all the plans arranged last monday would be carried out except that lunch would be served at the high school building As luck would have it friday was an ideal arbor day and work began immediately after the roll had been called at noon a hot dog lunch was served and then everybody went down to the square where a cross country run was wag featured after this event some students hit for the hills others tor for the hot springs and others we know not where at night the annual junior promenade was given cross country run the annual cross crosa country run was held friday lu in former years the run was held for only monroe high school athletes but this year the richfield Richtie ld and north sevier high schools were invited both schools sent entries to the run there were about twenty prizes given the runners by the business men of the city leonard williams as usual crossed the tape yards ahead of the other if int I 1 no iff A c low f m contestants although chidester and cropper kept close to him until the last quarter of a mile the course was 26 miles it started at the bank corner and went south to the outskirts of town then back over the same route anti and around the track twice williams william s covered the distance dl stanco in fifteen minutes and fifty seven seconds of the sixteen entrants all but four finished the order in which they promenade was put over friday the prediction pit lot the class president that it would be the best yet was fulfilled to the letter the hot springs dance hall was decorated very beautifully in purple and white and a large emblem of the same colors reading class of 25 was hung where all would be sure to see it the seniors were given a special invitation at the promenade the committee for the
