sevier participated actively in furthering christmas cheer jcck by bv assisting with the caroling on christmas eve above the din of rumbling hay racks rose the clear happy voices ot of some high school students prominent among them were ronald jensen gordon monroe Mon roc rosena johnson phyllis jorgensen helen anderson edna D domgaard om gaard esther johnson doyle hansch james ivie charlotte gates kennard larsen and many others these singers to gecher 9 ether with tho the choir members of each ward radiated the christmas spirit sufficiently in salina to raise nearly five hundred dollars worth ot 0 food clothing and money for the needy and old As they made their house bouse to house calls at the homes in which a candle glowed its welcome the inmates came out laden with gifts for the poor and a wish for 0 merra merry christmas to the carolers caro lers these thes cheer givers had dumel numerous ous invitations to luncheon and they ac 1 cepter some but tho the reporter h has as pledged herself not to tell just what v h was nas the nature of some of these luncheons even the mayor was ordered to keep silent and she consented because she partook almost too treely they say at any rate one group of carolers caro lers were g gone one too long in their district however th tho brought some extra cheer back to the northeast sect section on of the city on oil christinas morning the counell council chamber of the city hall bore evidence that the carolers caro lers and modern woodmen goodmen had bad succeeded in gathering far more offerings than was anticipated these materials ill all of these boys have at some time in their lives been members of north sevier high thus the high school students both the alumni and present students did much to spread christmas cheer this season death claims chloe neilson Nc ilson quite out of keeping with tone of the gala christmas season comes the sad announcement of the death of miss chloe neilson a junior in high school why the arlin reaper should have chosen this happy time to take one of north deviers Se viers fairest an and d Sw sweetest cotest flowers floers is wholly able but on oil saturday december 30 chloe passed to the great beyond on the TIon monday day and tuesday of the ae weel week that school closed tor for the holidays days chloe was apparently BE as well happy and hearty as anyone in school the vanity contest was on oil and slie she showed an unusual interest tar by bringing nging in two subscriptions late tuesday d ay afternoon she was taken very ill that night no medical cal ald aid seemed to give her relief and she was then anken to the salina hospital on oil thursday friday noon she was operated on oil tor for appendicitis and other serious rious ailments although the operation was successful chloe was never herself from the time she was stricken ill slie she was only seventeen ears cars of ago age and had a splendid vitality she therefore suffered long and intensely death must have been a I 1 relief chloe was one of north deviers Se viers brightest su sunbeams 7 she radiated cheer and good will wherever she went she was also an exceptionally brilliant student having been promoted from the se seventh ent g grade rad e to the freshman class in high school without the eighth grade thaining thal tha ning ining slie she was abood a good writer and many of her art articles I 1 cles are now in the volumes of the north star chloes absence will be keenly felt by students and teachers alike for she was a shining light in the school although this altogether too gloomy sphere has been made even gloomier by chloes departure still she will make heaven happier an and brighter by her presence editor of north star entertain since school is not in session phyllis just gather the latest gossip so she deemed a little see social chat was necessary accordingly she invited fifteen lady guests to her home tuesday evening when they arrived they forgot gossip in their excitement over rook and pit nevertheless they found time I 1 between e games to devour phylliss homemade home made chocolates and divinity when the clock chimed twelve the hostess served a dainty luncheon still rook demanded more attention so the girls spent adoth another er hour in the card tournament perhaps phylliss curiosity was not satisfied but her guests were they bade her a cheerful good morning and left ai abc e phyllis says it so but what are students to think when the married folks report that she and a friend not a girl either cither bombarded the married folks wednesday night they say that melba was also there with her favorite just what has happened that such an occur ence shaula take place when they I 1 dav ent even graduated from high school are they oh no they cant be possibly clyde and phyllis and warren and melba just v wanted anted to get accustomed to the class they intend to join in the near furuie they are certainly too wise to make any mistakes before se school hool is out t era tine is given as part of the engh english sh c ourse course for enjoyment the students of north sevier are reading fiction and other books during their leisure hours of the holidays for enjoyment such books as certain people of importance four square daniel deronda the tempest the undying fire and others have ed as entertainment for the students shortly after vacation is over a written report of these books will be obtained by the english teachers curiosity satisfied mr and mrs chester J meyers leyers X of the high school faculty were the instigators sti gators of a surprise party friday evening at the home of mr and mrs INT I 1 despite the tact fact that mrs want her age to be known and had been out six nights in succession mr and mrs meyers insisted that several in offensive guests invade the home with luncheon on mrs ove sons birthday to ascertain her age unfortunately evelyn the youthful daughter of the Ov esons did not understand der stand the duplicity of the affair and immediately gave the ages of her whole family away after which all enjoyed a happy evening with cards miss bulah west and mr captured first prizes and the mesdames L S gates and jess thornell tho the consolations pride or pleasure mr evans is a very vain man so vain that he let vanity spoil all his holiday pleasure because of a slight deformity on his face he spent his holidays at home instead of at richfield as he had planned ho he has remained at home tending the babies too while mrs evans had bad some time high school students slumber Sl aniber clara observed that her girl friends hid had not been slumbering mun at home so she invited them to slumber with her friday night no one knows how much they slumbered but when clara nerved breakfast to thelma myrtle pay fay zell thursday afternoon ter noon december twenty seven students tried lor for places the successful contestants were frank tuft horace magleby theodore baldwin melba erickson ereckson kate jones nellie reynolds ruth magleby susie dark clark neldon webb hyrum lee arthur arthu r baker and garland webb tho the amazons is a delightful sac act comedy the time tor for present ing it t has not been selected yet but it will probably occur sometime during the first part of february i try outs in debating the class debating tryouts were held friday december four debaters were chosen from each class as follows seniors B idon eldon johnson jennie reynolds glyde webb and veva tuft juniors ireen tutt kate kale jones arthur baker a and nd frank fran k tuft sophomores susie dark clark elma moore theodore baldwin and garland webb freshmen clara johnson floral christensen eva and margaret jensen these students will represent their classes in the interclass debating contest IV which will be held sometime in january christmas Pr program wo we were the guests at a christmas program given friday afternoon by the senior class the program consisted of christmas stories readings and music following the program we sallied forth to the gym and enjoyed a matinee dance home sweet home was played at 5 p in and we bade one another and school goodbye good bye until jan 3rd ard 1923 foot ball banquet the annual foot ball banquet was held in the high school wednesday evening dec this was beyond a doubt one of the affairs ever hold held in our high school among the many desirable comments we have heard about this banquet a great many man have been compliments to the domestic science department miss heawood and her domestic science lass class can in all modesty feel proud the eating began at 8 p m prin cipal apal olson acted as toastmaster between courses a series of toasts were given following the last course the election of the toot foot ball captain for 1923 was held arthur baker baher and neldon webb were nominated arthur was elected by a small majority arthur has been one of the mainstays main stays of the team this year and we can be assured that the team will be well piloted during the 1923 season following the election tho the crowd sallied forth to the gym an arcelis tra had had been provided and dancing was indulged in until midnight t tho the J E magleby award president J E magleby has offered 1500 as an award to 0 the two best speakers from the south sevier high school the 10 award will be given to the speaker getting first place in the final tryout an 1 5 will be awarded to the speaker getting second place well known and competent judges will be appointed this contest is open to every student attending the S S H S providing they have by friday january handed to principal C P 01 son a suggestive subject so carefully chosen that the person who chooses it could if asked give a talk on the same the subjects should be signed by the persons wishing to enter tle the tryouts will be held in room 10 0 at 2 45 4 5 in the S S I H 1 S building on friday january eliminations will be executed in the same way there as in the final tryout the subjects suggested will be posted one week previous to the final tryout and the subjects will be assigned to the respective contestants winning out in the first tryout one day before the final tryout which enible merry christmas seemed to ring from all the numbers of the program given by seven one the assembly room was decorated with bright colors 0 rs pertaining to yuletide everyone enjoyed the program and left with the real christmas spirit and well surely be glad when seven one takes it upon themselves to arrange another assembly yells rah rah bim ball bah the rest of it aw I 1 cant remember it for weve been making up so many yells tor for yell master cummings that aliat I 1 have thousands jumbled up jn in my mind and cant keep them straight nevertheless the junior high intends to have some yells full of pep and vim to give the boys a boost and inspire them to fight harder in the next game tho the christmas dance mirthless exclamations of saint nicholas preparations for dance arrival at
