Show agreement reached after conference of loard board with teacher the question of a salary schedule for or the teachers of the sevier school district and of the length of 0 the next school term was thoroughly discussed in the meeting of the board of education held saturday the hoard board had called in the executive committee of 0 tho the sevier school district teachers association for a conference and after a lengthy confab a result was obtained satisfactory to everybody concerned and best explained in a letter sent out by the teachers committee to the principals principal and teachers tea chera of the district the letter reads I 1 dear friends that was some session that your executive committee had with the school hoard last saturday they had invited us to confer with them regarding the salary schedule for and the length of the net school bear ear xe we met with them at 10 and their reception was so cordial that we stayed with them until then we withdrew and they stayed ata ed in executive session unlit the problems involved were threshed out with surprising frankness ness and splendid thoroughness a spirit of absolute fairness prevailed throughout we each learned many things and although the board has not seen fit to lo grant all that we wa asked we cannot help feeling that they hare gone as tar far a their best beat judgment will permit and as far as an honest business policy will allow we asked that they ro establish this years salary schedule slightly modified so as to give a 50 increase to all teachers in the district and that they give a nine mouth month school year wo we submitted figures which we believed warranted these requests they produced evidence that they could not quite do this if this last years values should he be retained in this county they could just barely do it but county assessor I eckenbach bach gae it as his opinion that these values bould be decreased abou one seventh indich aich would decrease the revenue of the district bot about atter after careful consideration of all of the questions involved the board decided to make neither increases nor decreases in fit salaries tor for next year and to make the holding of school t the he ninth month conditional upon the financial condition existing may 1 1922 if the figures which ue e submitted prove substantially reliable the schools ull nill contine confine nine months those of us who have stud I 1 j aed the problem most carefully feel morally certain that the nine month year will bo be possible since hearing of the decision deci bion of the board I 1 have talked nith each member of the executive execute commit committee tea over the telephone and it is their unanimous opinion that the board has stood by us squarely that they have done for us the very best hat they could and that their proposal is 19 just and fair we recommend it to you therefore in the hope that wo we may have net ne t year as splendid and as prosperous as this one has been yours i ours very cordially cordial lv T D MARTIN for the executive Commit committee tei ot of the sevier school district teachers association C ray evans sophia goldbranson C P olson E L hancock ada thurber J L despain A E gull stena loretta jennings vio ross |
