ill acts and was put on oil very successfully in manti we have hopes of having a t good crowd because we e are going to manti next month with our play and wo we want to have a good crowd there last year they treated our dramatic club royally so we have decided on oil giving them the same this thib year we vo will give them a banquet prepared by thu tha domestic Ioni estic science girls under the direction of miss dahle and flora it is to our benefit to have a good crowd fco 0 o we want everyone eve to get behind us 4 V 11 tho weed problem in ill appreciation of the great importance of the weed problem to our dally daily lives several everal periods monday morning were devoted to a careful study of a set of slides on this question which aich were obtained from the visual education department of the university of utah the slides gave excellent illustrations of the bad effects of weeds on crop yields and in many cases gave figures to show that weeds are losses some of the most difficult weeds to control such a as quack grass were discussed rather fully and the various methods of control and were given in detail the injurious effects of weeds may lie be summarized as follows they rob the soil of its lood and moisture they injure the plant by shutting out the sunlight and air and by robbing it of its growing space they form forin an ex celent home for insects and fungus diseases while several control measures the one which was coll considered the most important is the careful rotation ot crops selection and fanning of 0 seed the frequent cultivation of the crops and the pasturing of livestock especially hogs were other suggested methods of control it is generally believed that the introduction of visual instruction into our schools will work wonders in making our given by bv melba anderson of glenwood abild and naomd anderson of cen bial A comic was presented bi fredrick peterson paterson Pc terson and lynn lay A school paper was as discussed by millie ill ivie and nellie peterson the last number was a very clever one act play entitled all in a fog staged by the following members cecil blade black leali icah riser karl horne home venice edards and mala elal poulson following the play the hie members ot of the cast were presented with bouquets as the appreciation from the other classes of the school the proceeds go to purchase pictures tor lor the building if junior senior debate the second of our interclass inter class debates was held last monday morning in ill assembly this was staged between twe in the juniors and seniors the former formed being represented by the misses laurel poulson and phyllis fisher and the latter by ada and ida christensen the question under discussion was resolved that utah should adopt a graduated graduate 4 in come tax law each side produced convincing arguments for and against it the juniors however hoN Never displayed their usual pep and spirit and convinced the judges miss miller 11 iller mrs mm E E school musical department pie dented the opera Al Mam amselle selle taps friday evening march 11 in the richfield opera house under the supervision per vision of glen hanson teacher of music in the school this opera is ono one of our very bet operas for high school students and the way the students handled it proved their ability in such undertakings the opera represented a scene in france near the battle line during the time of the world war the costumes and habits of the french were very picture picturesquely quely shown hown i by the students the chorus handled their parts very well the very first note was hit with as much force as the last one and everyone was pleased with the manner in which it was put over the principals did equally well and can all be congratulated on the splendid manner in which they dramatized their parts A special orchestra was organized for the production in which some of the very best musicians participated the splendid accompaniment was one of solos by nola coons a 1 reading by viola a ogden selections by the freshman man girls chorus and addresses by flora and carlyle miller following the program games and in dancing were enjoyed the high school orchestra furnished excellent evrel lent music the purpose of these programs pro grims is twofold firt first to acquaint the people in the alie district with wah the type of vork the high school is doing and second to billig the patrons in closer touch with tho the school as a whole A similar program was presented I 1 in glenwood last week weck and others will bo be given in the
