| Show SCHOOL BOND ISSUE DID NOT CARRY very little interest votes for against ak aliat bonds bond the bond election conducted in the sevier school district tuesday june 15 to raise an all amount of for improvements on school buildings resulted in the defeat of the issue of the several thousands of qualified voters only turned out to the polls and votes were cast for tor forthe the bond issue while voted against the issue leaving a majority of 16 votes against the bonds the voto vote in the different precincts was for against R richfield ichii beld 29 26 venice 4 20 II monroe onroe 9 48 salina is 15 aurora 15 3 joseph 6 8 annabella 14 G central 1 20 glenwood 3 10 sigurd si 9 urd 2 2 cove 0 G elsinore 5 1 redmond 6 8 koosharem Koo sharem 2 10 burrville Burr ville 0 7 totals the defeat of the issue will be a disappointment to the board of education the money was to be raised for the purpose of equipping the salina high school with a goodge good gymnasium and to make improvements in different school buildings throughout tile the district now nothing can call bo be lone done and tor for this reason the vot ing T will ill also be a disappointment to the salina school patrons and students in the third place it will be a disappointment to several communities where school buildings are not N w hat they ought to be tale take for instance aurora in our last report about school board proceedings published elsewhere in this issue it is mentioned that an aurora delegation appeared before the board to submit a petition fo a new school building booking at the votes we find that aurora gave 15 votes tor for and 33 against raising the money how can the vot 1 ers expect to get a new building when they refuse the ilgard hoard the means for erecting it or take annabella A new school building is not completed there because the board did not have money enough to finish the work of 20 10 annabella voters 6 voted against the bond issue do they expect that the board members will pay for the completion ot of the builds build ing out of their own pocket an other instance is redmond edmond Il only v few miles away from salina th redmond people have to send their sons and daughters to salina if the want to give them a high school edu cation it looks look like they did not care whether or not their children childr ert have proper accommodations in high school if they cared they would not have given 8 out ot of their 14 vote vate t against the bond issue the bond market Is low at present it is true but the board of education had a very favorable agreement with a denver bonding house and the bonds could have been sold at a very good figure why the votes voters went out to vote against the bond issue nobody knows maybe they them selves dont know it either |
