Show Joseph Monsen Passes Away Joseph Monson, 68, prominent farmer and cattleman of this city, died at 1:30 Saturday morning, after a short illness from pneumonia pneu-monia and heart trouble. Mr. Monson was born in Mount Pleasant May 1, 1863. His parents, par-ents, Peter and Dorthea Monson were among the pioneers who settled Mt. Pleasant in 1859. He was married to Miss Annette . Neilson, November 4, 1886. .. Mr. Monson, an active Republican, Repub-lican, had been prominent in the civic and political life of this com-. com-. munity. He served as city mar-. mar-. shal from 1896 to 1899 and was a . member of the city council from 1-904 to 1907.., He served as mayoi In 1914 and 1915 and was again . elected to. the city council in 192tf, serving one term. He was a charter member of the Mt. Pleasant Pioneer Historical Histori-cal Association arid was largely instrumental in the erection of the pioneer monument which the association erected in 1909, commemorating com-memorating the fiftieth anniversary anniver-sary of the founding of this city. :: He was president of the Mount Pleasant Cattlemen's Association and had served more than thirty ' years as president of the Twin Creek ' Irrigation . Company and was ' vice-president of this com- " pany at the time of hisloeath. He had also been vice-president of the Mt;; Pleasant Pioneer Historical Histori-cal Association the past twelve years, -and had been a director in the association since its organi- ' zation In 1909. ' . - He Is 'survived by his widow, one son, Ray Monson of Payson; two daughters, Mrs. A. V. Mcintosh and Mrs. Harold Jensen, Mount Pleasant; ten grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters : Mrs. Peter Johansen, Castle Dale; ' Mrs. Josie Jorgensen, Ephraim; Mrs. Christie Beck, Aberdeen, Idaho; Ida-ho; John Monson, Lava Springs, " Idaho; Peter Monson, Rains; Mrs. ; A. S. Jensen, Axtell; Mrs. Chris-tena Chris-tena Madsen, Mantl; Mrs. Annie M. Erlcksen, Mrs. G. C. Beck-strom, Beck-strom, Mrs. Joseph Johansen, Mrs Boone Monson, Mrs. O. M. Aid-rich Aid-rich and James Monson, Mount Pleasant. Funeral services will be held in the South ward chapel at 2 p. m. Tuesday under the direction of the Hansen Mortuary. |
