Birthday , Surrounded by children and grand-. grand-. children, representing Ave genera. ; lions, Mrs. Mary Young Wilcox, one , ot the surviving pioneer women of . 1847, celebrated her nlnety-th'ra birthday anniversary, Friday, at the home of her eldest sou. Hazard Wilcox. Her youngest son, Justus Wilcox, had traveled several hundred . miles, coming from Alberta, Canada to be present, aud many relatives came from all parts of Utah to honor this aged pioneer. An elaborate dinner was served and the honor guest was the recipient recipi-ent of many beautiful gifts from relatives and friends. Mrs. Wilcox was born In Uppei Canada, Juno 6, 1331. Coming to Utah with her parents in 1847, she drove three yoke of oxen over the plains, and arriving here she hauled logs, molded adobes and otherwise helped to make a home for the family. fami-ly. She was married in Salt Lake, i March 14, 1848 to John Henry Wil-'cox, Wil-'cox, who died fifteen yeat-3 ago. They liveJ for a time at Pleasant Grove and at North Ogden. In 18(10 they came to Mt. Pleasant, where the family has since resided. Mrs. Wilcox Is the mother of eleven elev-en children, ten of whom are living. They are: Hassard Wilcox and Mrs. I Sarah Bills of Mt. Pleasant, Jame3 and John Wilcox, Mrs. Mary Day, and Mrs. Martha Westwood. all of Grand ( Valley, Utah, Mrs. Hannah Carlson, jMajitl. Mrs. Clarissa Meiling of Oak Creek. Justus Wilcox of Albert, Canada, Can-ada, and Mrs Elizabeth Hurst of Mexico. Mrs. Wilcox is still hale and hearty, hear-ty, remarkably well preserved for her age, and was one of the gayest at the birthday celebration. |
