Governor General Leonard Wood has pardoned 11. "i prisoners serving sentences at P.ilildd prison and in two penal colonics on southern south-ern islands, during the past week. Among tiiose who were pardoned were nineteen women who were about to become mothers. The Philippine independence commission com-mission expended Jl.Ti.OU0 last year in publicity and the upkeep of officers of-ficers in Manila and Washington according ac-cording to figures given out by the commission here Friday. Four missions mis-sions were sent to the I'nlted States during the year by the commission. The house of representatives of the insular legislature Friday adopted adopt-ed a resolution thanking Senator Robert M. I-aFollette of Wisconsin. Senator William H. King of Utah and Representative John F. Rankin of Mississippi for Introducing in congress con-gress bills which would grant independence in-dependence to the Philippines. The senate has not yet acted on the bill. Governor Genenil Leonard Woisl as yet has taken no action rono-mlng the annual appropriation bill, passed by the legislature; but It Is stated that he will veto that part of the bill curtailing tho appropriation for the governor general's offli-e, including includ-ing the operating expenses of bis private yacht, the Apo. Manila, The Philippine Independence Indepen-dence commission tin a decided to send another mission to the Pnlted States In March for the purpose of making a further plea for Independence Indepen-dence for the Islands. The personnel of the mission and the date on which they will leave for the I'nlted States are to be decided upon soon. |
