Show WAY TO GET MORE WATER FORCOUNTY At this time there seems to be a good oppertunity for getting more water for irrigation purposes In Sanpete San-pete County. It is, very probadle that the United States Government will huild a reservoir below Scofield for the purpose of supplying the farmers at Price and vicinity with ' water for irrigation. If this is done there is no doubt that the Mammoth Reservoir can be obtained and take its storage water into Sanpete County by menus of a canal three miles long and a tunnel through the ridge into tlie south fork of Sanpitch Canyon. From this point a ditch can be constructed con-structed at a very small cost to carry the w:iier into the Indianola valley, and there irrigate a vast area of land. Another canal could be constructed con-structed that would carry the water to Hill Top and west to Fairview and Mount Pleasant, and around above Fountain Green. Other canals could be taken out on either side of the valley and irrigate practically all the land in Sanpete County. Experience has- shown that the moie we irrigate the high land, the more springs and seapes occur on the lower lands. Thus the same water can be used a numder of times. It must be borne in mind that storage water can be used when it is most needed. This would give Sanpete San-pete a splendid oppertunity for the growing of sugar beets, etc. It is within the possibility to double doub-le our production and thus greatly i .crease our population. This enterprise could be brought about by three different methods. First, by the U. S. Government doing it as has been done 'in the Strawberry Straw-berry project in Utah County, and then in turn sell the water to the farmers on easy terms. Second, induce in-duce the state to construct the reservoir res-ervoir on the same plan. And third, an irrigation district can be formed by interested parties in Sanpete county and bonds issued, and thus they will be the owners and the full beneficiaries. In regard to the approximate cost it should not exceed $750,000.00, and the water stored should not be less than 30,000 acre feet, and at the value of $75.00 per acre this would amount to $2,250,000. It appears that the above suggestions sugges-tions should be carefully considered cy the people of this county, and I recommend that a mass meeting be called or convention be held at Mount Pleasant', and that representatives represen-tatives of all towns be sent to the Bald meeting. ,As far as I know this is about the only opportunity left for Sanpete San-pete county to increase its water supply sup-ply to any great extent.
