Show L. D, S. HOSPITAL We are pleased to give space to the following concot ning the work of the Dr. Groves Latter-Day Saints hospital at Salt Lake City. The matter is taken from the annual circular issued by the institution, a copy of which was recently sent to Stake Clerk Peter Matson. "The Dr W. H. Groves Latter Day Saints Hospital originated through a bequest of the late Dr. W. H. Groves of Salt Lake City, who bequeathed be-queathed his property to establish a hospital to be under the perpetual control of the Presiding Bishopric of the Church of Jesin Christ of Latter-day Saints. Most of the funds for its erection and equipment equip-ment were provided by the Trustee-in-Trustfor the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, "The buildings are all fire-proof and have all modern improvements. The equipment of each department represents the highest development of medical and surgical science. "The Training School was organized organ-ized in the year 1905 and has continued con-tinued in exisrance since that time. The school is planned on the most modern lines of training schools. A throngh general training in all branches bran-ches of nursing is given, and special attention paid to surgery, obstetrics hydo-therapy and massage. "The trustees of the Dr. W. H. Groves Latter-day Saints Hospital have arranged for a three years course of instruction to women desiring de-siring to become professional nurses. The age of acceptance is between the years of 19 and 35. "The applicant muat have finished the eighth grade in school. Those having high school training are pre-fered. pre-fered. She must be a member of some church and be able to give a recomendation of her character from her bishop or pastor. "The application may be made either by letter or in person to the Superintendent of Nurses. The examinations ex-aminations required may be had without charge, after the applicant has been admitted on probation by the memoers of the hospital staff. "The class work begins September Septem-ber 1st, the first semster ending Dec. 23rd.- The second semester begins the second week in January, and extends ex-tends to the last week in may. Probationers Pro-bationers should enter either early t in the spring or late in the summer, so as to be present at all class work. "If the applicant is approved, the Supertintendent of Nurses will notify her of the time to enter and will furnish the directions for probation pro-bation uniform. "The pupils are received on thr- e months probation, during which time it is her privilege to leave if she so desires; it is also the privilege of the superintendent of' Nurses to . dismiss her at any time that she may see fit. In other words, these three months are given that each party may have an opportunity, the one of deciding whether she likes the work, the other whether the applicant ap-plicant is qualified fo the work, mentally, physically and by temper ment. "During probation pupils are boarded and lodged at the expense of the hospital, but receive no other compensation. Candidates should .remember that they come on trial. Their acceptance as pupils will depend de-pend entirely upon the development of that term. "If a nurse becomes sick while in training she will be cared for in the hospital free of charge for one month. After that time a charge of one-half the regular rates will be made. "The nurses are given practical experience in the general ward and divisions of the Hospital, both medical medi-cal and surgical, in operating rooms maternity department, hydrotherapy hydrothera-py department, massage department and the diet kitchen. "Upon completion of the three years course of instruction, and after having satisfactorily passed the examinations, the nurse will receive re-ceive a diploma of the school entitling en-titling her to practice her prof' 8 sion". |
