Show The Home of P. M. McArthur Destroyed by Fire Tuesday Afternoon ' The home of P. M. McArthur was destroyed by fire last Tuesday afternoon after-noon at 3 o'clock. The roof caught fiie from a falling spark which came from the kitchen stovepipe arid fell upon the roof. The day was hot and the shingles were very dry making it an easy matter to catch on fire. As soon as the fire was discovered by Mrs. McAi thur, she informed her husband and called the fire department. depart-ment. Mr. McArthur tried in vain to keep the fire in chi cR until the department could reach the scene. Through some misfortune the team wnich was first hitched to the wagon wag-on of the fire department would not pull and a long time was lost before another could be secured 10 take the hose wagon to the place. Soon after the department arrived ar-rived and a good stream of water set at work the fire was put out. It was one of the most destructive fires seen in Mount Pleasant for a number of years. The loof was destroyed by the fire and much damage dam-age done by the water in other parts of the house. Possibly one thousand dollars would cover the entire loss The furniture was all saved by the people who carefully carried it from the burning building. |
