A motion carried that this matter be referred to the Committee Com-mittee on Waterworks. A net it ion siirnod bv 112 leual voters of the city was presented to the Council by members cf the Library Li-brary ( 'oni mi: tee. among whom were Supt. .1. W. Anderson. Pres. C. N. Lund, II. LeP.oy Neilson and S. E. Jensen, requesting that a public library li-brary be established and maintained in Mount Pleasant. In this petition they asked that an election be called so that the people may vote upon the proposit;on of levying a tax of one mill on the dollar upon the taxable propi rty for the establishment and maiTitcnam e of such an institntion. All that Mr. ' Carnagie expects of the people in return re-turn for his gi.t is that the people keep up the institution. Councilman V. W. The resolution met with much favor and was odopted by a concordant vote of the counc-I. Recorder Neilson was instru'ted to publish a notice for the call of an election. Supt. J. W. Anderson mads a request re-quest of the council thnt the City ap-I ap-I propriate ten dollars each month for .one year for the maintenance of the present library. The reqnc3t was granted. The Recorder was authorized to , purchase one hundred dog collars and tags and commence the collecting of dog taxes. Councilman McICIrahan, chairman of the Committee on Finance and Auditing made a report stating that the hooks had been approved and was pleased with their condition. The finance committee recommended thnt the City's indebtedness be reduced $3000.00 each year. This was ap-, ap-, proved by the council. Mr. McKirahan I stated that the Waterworks system i and the Electric Light system would i support themselves and also pay off I the indebtedness of eac h department in the stipulated time which has been appointed. A number of claims were awarded and the recorder was authorized to issue warrants covering the amounts. |
