The forenoon session was taken up largely by a discussion of some proposals by Mayor A. R. Heywood of Ogden on the subject, "Some Sources Sour-ces of Revenue." This la regarded as u subject of particular importance ac the present time, in view of the possibility pos-sibility of a deficiency in revenue under un-der prohibition. Mayor Heywood advocated more axes on automobiles, the taxing of Eurety companies, the taxing of telephone tele-phone companies and the taxing ol cemetery lots, as well. There wa? some opposition to the taxing of surety sur-ety and telephone companies, on account ac-count of the fear of increased rates by the companies. The suggestions b -were referred to the committee on I legislation, and a report will be made today. The committee has not yet teen appointed. Mayor McHenry Speaks. Mayor J. W. McHenry of Hurray talked on "Municipal Ownership of Public Utilities." He explained the tvecess with which Murray had op-crated op-crated the municipal water and power pow-er systems, and advocated the extension exten-sion of the system to all public utilities. utili-ties. There was little opposition to the plan. There was some discussion over the construction of concrete roads by -v the state. At the present time the: 1 roads thrcugh the counties are con-etructed con-etructed by the state and part of the J expense is borne by the counties, I but neither the state nor the counties coun-ties aid the city in constructing roads within the city limits. - It was argued that help should be given in building roads of the same character in the cities as those constructed outside the city limits. Mayor John G. M. Barnes of Kays-ville Kays-ville advocated making schools and churches in cities bear part of the expense of the roads. E. A. Bock, city auditor of Sal-Lake, Sal-Lake, explained the budget system and urged its use throughout the state. He explained the benefits which have come to Salt Lake through its use. A. R.
