Show 8 QUARTS OF JOY STOLEN STOL-EN IN BROAD DAYLIGHT Bootleggers at Salina, according to the Salina Call, are not attending to business well, apparently, as n has come to light that people who develop a 44-caliber thirst have to steal the liquor to quench it. Some Wayne county person ordered order-ed a nice big case of quart bottles ol the best red booze from one of thf citadels of Zion, but alas, they art now singing: Goodbye Tom and Jerry, Farewell Rock and Rye, Its a slow mail back to Zion, And Salina's all dry. The liquor arrived all right, llr. Mensel, the agent, left the big double quartet of glaring bottles on ona ol the trucks just inside the warehouse and went into the office. He returned return-ed in less than an hour to find it gone stolen in broad daylight on Saturday Satur-day last. Word was sent to officei Bert Jensen, who was on duty, and he, with the assistance of Renholl Mattson, has been searching for the guilty parties. The terrible loss to the consignee is some what lessened and the sorrow soothed by the knowledge that the vigor of life was not waited, and that some one got all possible joy and gladness out of it. Valuable things like that should be SDeciallv guarded while in transit, and any one who would leave it unguarded even for en hour deserves to loss it. It's to be hoped that the liquor was better than a bottle full which was recently found in Salina . Some very hard drinkers guzzled at it in vain, trying and trying but never able to down it. It finally found its use, however. Some boys had worked for days to get a pretty pole cat to come out from a hollow log. Just as they were about to give it up the man with this bottle happened along. On hearing the boy's story he volunter-ed volunter-ed to get the animal out. He uncorked un-corked the bottle and held it to the small end of the log. The skunk, thinking that the scent of the awful whiskey was the perfume from one of its kind in trouble, came running run-ning out at breakneck speed and fpll all over the man in trying to get the bottle. |
