Show Wasatch Exercises All Exceptionally Exception-ally Good. Wasatch Academy concluded its closing exercises this week with several sev-eral splendid public entertainments and the Alumni Association meeting Wednesday. All of the public events were interesting, in-teresting, and creditable to those participating. Of unusual interest were the eighth grade closing, the German play presentations, the baccalaureate bac-calaureate address and the commencement com-mencement exercises proper. The play "Daughter of the Regiment," given by eighth grade pupils was well done throughout and brought much praise to the young folks. The German Ger-man plays given entirely in that language, lan-guage, were a decided novelty. They were cleverly given, the pupils portraying por-traying the various characteristics, showing thorough preparation alio considerable histrionic ability. The Commencement exercises at the Elite theatre were witnessed by a large and enthusiastic crowd which enjoyed the efforts of the graduates very much. The young folks without with-out exception, did exceedingly well, giving their addresses in an intelligent intelli-gent way, each showing familiarity with and comprehension of the subjects sub-jects under discussion. Musical selections that were exceedingly ex-ceedingly well rendered were an appreciated ap-preciated portion of each program. The names of the graduates as well as those taking part in the various plays, were given last weeli. The Alumni meeting was the largest ever held by the Association, 7 0 persons being present. An enjoyable en-joyable program at"Tink's Hall consisted con-sisted of piano solos by .Misses Whit-.elsey Whit-.elsey and Winnifred Jensen;" vocal 30I0 by Harold Jensen, reading, lone McArthur, Experiences abroad, Elmer El-mer Johanseu, came last. At the banquet toasts were given by the following, fol-lowing, Miss Caroline Rasmussen acting act-ing as toastmistress: Burke McArthur, McArth-ur, Rex Jensen, Neva Waldemar, Clinton Webb and J. M. Johnson. A surprise was perpetrated upon principal C. L. Johns, who has been .ery popular among friends and stu-lents stu-lents of the school. He 'was presented pre-sented with a handsome gold watch, i gift of dozens of people of the town and students of Wasatch all of whom were pleased to have an opportunity oppor-tunity of expressing the kindly feeling feel-ing and sincere respect which they jear for him. A number of visitors from out of town were here for the closing exercises, exer-cises, among them being the follow- ng: Mrs. Horatio Wright and daughter daugh-ter of Salina, Mrs. Thomas Bradley of Ogden, Mrs. C. II. Matthews of Marysvale, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Horn- ng of Manti, Rev. and Mrs. C. K. Dorius of Springville, Mrs. Lauber if Price, Miss Ruth Becker of Manti, Miss Tillie Borg of Richfield, Miss Johnson of Salina, Miss Lillian Johns of Ontario Oregon. |
