Show Thunderbolt Struck Public School House An electrict storm passed over Mount Pleasant last Wednesday eve ning at about 6:30. It was considered consider-ed to be the most severe one ever r. corded in this citv. A thunderbolt struck the Public School building and shattered the two east posts of the tower, running downward and making a hole in the roof of the building. Pieces of boards and lumber were thrown in all directions. Another one struck one of the transformers of the elec trie lightplant near the home of John Annand and it was put out of commission. com-mission. There was also a transformer trans-former partly destroyed farther up the line. Reports were received that other places were affected by the storm. A large tree near S. E. Jensen's Jen-sen's home was shattered. The rain decended so fast that it was only a very short time until the streets were running with water. One party reports that he found nearly three inches of water in a bucket that was out in the open. It was undoubtedly the most dangerous danger-ous storm ever seen in this city, but fortunately no lives were lost. A great many of the electric lights in the city were put out of commission commis-sion and part of the city left in darkness. dark-ness. Last Monday afternoon another building was strucK by a similar bolt of lightning. It was the wash-house of O. F. Wall in the western part of town. Many shingles were shattered and one of the rafters. |
