Show BLACKMAILERS GARRY OUT THREAT AGAINST UTAHN Attempt to Blow Up Home of Le Roy Eccles at Ogden Following Threats of Death. Ogden. Carrying out their threat to blow up the homes of the various members of 'the Eccles family unless money were forthcoming, blackmailers blackmail-ers Sunday morning attempted to dynamite dy-namite the home of Le Roy Eccles. The explosion occurred at 1 o'clock. The members of the family were asleep n the seend floor, but none was Injured. A heavy charge of dynamite was exploded on the southeast coiner of the front porch. The explosion tore a big hole in the front wall of the house and demolished the porch. Bric-a-brac and expensive furniture were ruined. Several windows in the home of Dr. If. M. Rowe, a candidate for mayor, who lives next door to the Eccles Ec-cles family, were broken and the porch of the house was damaged. The home of Fred G. Taylor, general superintendent su-perintendent of the Amalgamated Sugar company, adjoining the Eccles house, was also damaged 'by the explosion. ex-plosion. Miss Llla Eccles, sister of Le Roy, and a friend, Miss Alberta Wright, were asleep in a room almost directly direct-ly above the spot -where the dynamite had been placed, but Ibeyond being stunned by the shock and badly frightened escaped unhurt. The explosion is the climax to a series of threats made by blackmailers upon the widow of the late David Eccles Ec-cles and her sons, to make them regret re-gret it unless money were paid to the blackmailers. |
