Show 5llSlpp Following is an account of how Capt. George H. Marshall, Jr. of the Long Brach Foot Ball team played the game while winning a victory over the Array-Navy Academy; Acad-emy; the score being 28 to 0., To the stellar, all around work of Captain Geo. H. Marshall, Jr. of Long Beach, must be given the greatest amount of praise. Marshall Mar-shall scored a touchdown and converted con-verted four goals, making ten points in all individually for his team. He also made the passtoWark, the local quarterback, who made the touch down for Long Beach. In addition to this the longest and the most frequent gains made by Long Beach were those when Marshall carried the ball. Consistently did the husky local halfback plunge through the army and navy line for substantial yardage. Only when dragged to earth under a mass of tacklers did he . stop. Several times he dove headlong over a tangled bunch of arms and legs for several extra needed yards. This diving feature of Marshall's playing has marked every game in which he has participated partici-pated in high school. A large nnm-ber nnm-ber of Long Beach's touch-downs were made last year by Marshall in this same method-plunging over the line of scrimmage, when opponents would lay down flat to hold the line at critical stages of play. Marshall's Mar-shall's water polo played and swim-1 swim-1 ming prowess stands him in good stead in this spectacular way of gaining ground. |
