The farmers have every laborer in the neighborhood neighbor-hood out in the beet fields harvesting harvest-ing the beet crop as fast as possible. This season the Beet Growers of Moroni have raisied more than 4"0 acres of sugar beets averaging 15 tons per acre. Some of the best yields were as high as 20 tons per acre. The price paid the farmers this year is $4.75 per ton which w ill amount to nearly forty thousand, dollars to be distributed among the farmers of Moroni. On account of a shortage of ears at the depot the farmers were permitted per-mitted lo dump the beets on the ground near the depot until cars could be furnished by the Railroad company. This is done in accordance with the contract made by the sugar company permitting the farmers to rush the harvesting after October 1st uf each year, in ease the transportation trans-portation company cannot furnish cars fast enough for the farmers. It is a beautiful sight to see the great Pyramid of Sugar beets that covers nearly two acres of ground where they are being dumped at present. There are n arly 10,000 tons of beets in this one place. During the busy season there are as many, as 190 loads of beets harvested har-vested per day. Each load averaging averag-ing about three tons. This means a big pay Roll for the farmers in that district. With this enormous beet crop making the farmers prosperous, pros-perous, the Free Public Library, the Public High School, a fine Tabernacle, Taberna-cle, a Bank and several prosperous mercantile establishments in Moroni are important factors in the progress of that city. Moroni is forging ahead as fast as opportunity permits. |
