Show Tree Seed Sown On National Forests It is reported that during 1913 tree seed was sown on ten of the thirty-three thirty-three National Forests of District 4, (southern Idaho, Utah, Nevada, southwest Wyoming, and nortnwest Arizona) covering an area of 1,822 acres, trees were planted on twenty-forests twenty-forests on an area of 1,842 acres. The greatest amount on any forest sown was 550 acrei and 286 acres planted. All of the sowing ana 57 per cent of the planting was done in the fall. The cost per acre foi sowing was $4.69, and for planting $12 45 using 839 trees to the acre 'An increase of 36 cents per acie foi planting over that of 1912 is due to the use of older stock. Of the tret-planted, tret-planted, 50.7 per cent were yellow pine; 42.8 Douglas Fir, and 6 5 p-i cent other species. |
