Show BEET SEED TO ' BEEXPORTED ! America Soon to Sliip Rather Than Import, Says Sugar Manager. T. R. Cutler, general manager of the Utah-Idaho Sugar company, who just returned from Denver, where he attended a meeting of the official board of United States Sugar Beet Seed company, declares that in less 'han fifteen years it is reasonable to believe that sugar beet Beed will be eroorted from America instead of being Imported. He added that sugar su-gar beet seed produced to the amount of about 9000 bags this year on the Idaho Falls tract gives promise or being as good as European sugar beet seed. Estimate was made last night by Mr. Cutler that the Utah-Idaho Sugar company will disburse between $1,-j $1,-j 750,000 and $2,000,000 in considera-j considera-j tlon of sugar beets contracted for,; this year. The amount paid farmers for sugar beets last year by the Utah-Idaho Utah-Idaho Sugar company was much lesF and in addition the Amalgamated Sugar company this year has paid i farmers $1,250,000 for beets. The large increase is the result of steady development of the sugar industry in-dustry in - Utah and surrounding states, and Mr. Cutler explained that when the run of sugar beets started this fall the crop of beets was handled handl-ed by an addition of four new factories, factor-ies, which cost on an average of $1,-000,000 $1,-000,000 each. Previously the Utah-Idaho Sugar company had seven sugar factories and the new plants are situated at Spanish Fork, West Jordan, Brigham City and Grants Pass, Ore. It is said that several additional factories will be In the field when the 1917 crop of sugar beets is harvested, though it is not expected that any attempts will be made to establish a sugar beet fac tory in Emery county until 1918. Successful experiments have been made In the raising of sugar beets in sections of Emery county under the direction of the Utah-Idaho Sugar company. |
