Show EPHRAIM CITIZENS ADOPT PROPOSAL FOR CONSTRUCTION OF BIG TUNNEL I EPIIKAIM, Jan. 8. In a proposal directed to Henry C. Lund H or his assigns, the farmers of this community hnve expressed a H willingness to1 conclude a contract for tho construction of h tunnel H through tho mountains east of this city, together with dlverUnjc H works for tho irrigation of forty-six hundred and eighty-six ncn H of land. The propositi was adopted at a meeting in the library H auditorium, and the motion for its adoption carried unnnlmmuiiy. H A committee of five is now securing signatures to the proposal, H and it Is reported thnt In less than one day six hundred share H were subscrlb.nl for. It is conservatively estimated thnt tho pcoj- H cct when completed will double the water supply for irrigation naur M owned by the Ephrnim farmers. H The plan involves the appropriation of the water of several big; H springs on the cast side of the mountains nnd also thu impounding; H of surface water on the east slope of the mountains, which hnn in H thu past served no beneficial purpose. The water will bo stored in H reservoirs, so as to conserve the rights of the farmers on thu ut M side of the mountains nnd to be available for diversion through the H tunnel whenever it is needed by thu farmers of this community. ,H It is plnnued to complete the construction of the tunnel and H tho reservoirs on the east slopu next summer. The water will be H carried through' the channel of the Ephrnim Cottonwood Creek H and will supply thu shortage on land which is now under cullivx- tlon. It will also be thu means of redeeming much waste bind H north of the city. It Is probable that in tho near future thpn- H posed corporation will construct one or more roBervoirs north or H Ephrnim, which will provide water for the cultivation of every H ncro of arable land on thu cast side of the valley between Manti H nnd Spring City. H At the present rale all the stock of the proposed corporation H will bo sold before the end of tho week, and in the event that thu H stock is subscribed for within the next two months, tho construe- H tlon work will begin its soon ns tho weather will permit next H spring.
