Never in tho history Hl of Price hns bo much interest been shown in a nuinlciMjfijjSction. ill The primary was well advertised and the friends of tjfiMljlrent ll ones naplrinjc for office were on hand nt 8 o'clock, whwJcJrf R. IH Mnrcuscn, precinct secretary, called tho meeting to order nd rend 1 the call. Marcuscn in a few well chosen words stated the purpose i ' H of tho meeting nnd hoped thnt the people would benr in mind that ' Hj they were nominating a set of officers who would bo elected nt the J H coming election. Everything was open nnd above Iwnrd and no kt H slnto had previously been mndc, so that everybody had a chance H nnd nil who were nominated hnd nn opportunity to test their ,H strength. . ', HH The first nomination called for was for mayor. The name of H A. W. Ilorslcy was placed before the primary, and the friends of l H N. A. Williams presented his nnme. Everyone seemed to be hnppy f H when in n well chosen speech Stanley Price arose and staled that wBi he had left tho republican party several years ago and hnd done , U so with nothing in mind but one purpose, thnt the purpose for - H which he had left the party had been accomplished, and felt thnt '; HI tits interests wero agnin with the republicans of Price and Cnrbon 4 M county, and that he was glad to get bnck. He then stated thnt it H was his pleasure to second the nomination of his friend, another j HI prodigal son, N. A. Williams. Judge Woods welcomed Messrs. ' HI Willinms nnd Price into the republican party, but felt thnt lit this -ii Bl time it was pcrhnps better to nominate a tried and truo republican, i HE one whom nil knew hnd nlwnys held stcndfnstly to republican prin- HH ciplca, nnd felt thnt these people coming bnck should help in the t Ml nominntion or such men as A. W. ilorslcy. 'ine result or tnc ual- DHI lot cast was Horsley eighty-eight, Williams thirty. 'J' MB Tho next nomination called for was for councilmnn for the four- BE year term. Tho names of John II. Pace and Thomas Fitzgerald jIBl were presented, Fitzgernld winning out by twelve votes. HKl The nominees for the two-year term were J. II. Pnce, Lars JhhS Frandsen and J. O. Fnusett, and there being no further nomina- IsH tions these gentlemen were declared nominated by ncclnmntion. The selection of L. A. Lnuber for recorder wns nlso by acclnm- mm ation, but there developed quite n contest over the nomination for SH treasurer, A. II. Hunten, the present incumbent, winning out over H Orson Guymon by about twenty votes. M H A. J. Leo was elected precinct chnirman to fill the vacancy on jj ffl. nccount of C. C. McWhinney hnving left tho stnto. M P This was ono of the fairest primaries ever held in Price by any ; Mt political party. The method adopted of having people desiring to iff I voto pass in front of the chnlrmnn's table and deposit their ballots m H in tho hat eliminated tho possibility of hnving the spectators pres- It m pni vote who were not entitled to do so. j3 tSi ' Carl R. Marcusen as chairman of the meeting filled the office m N with u great deal of credit to tho party, being fair in his rulings mm and giving everybody a clmnco to say whatever they might desire. p x Election of the whole ticket is predicted by a two to ono vote. i W Tho peoplo nre tired of stnr chamber nominations nnd only ask a m nfl fair chance to have n voice in tiiv, naming of candidates for office. glHHj SH |
