Show John E. Hayes to Be Honored at Reception Sunday John E. Hayes, fumer Brigham Young University -egistrar, will be honored at a p.Tigram and reception re-ception in the Joseph Smith Memorial Mem-orial auditorium and ball room, Sunday, February 13, from 2. to 4:30 p.m. it was announced today by Wesley P. Lloyd, chairman. The public is invited. Mr. Hayes served as registrar for 49 years, working under all of the presidents of the Brigham Young University except Dr. Karl G. Maeser. Mr. Hayes retired from his position in 1953 and is now working part-time with the History His-tory and Library Committee checking historical data and information in-formation to be indexed and catalogued. cata-logued. He entered the Brigham Young University as a student in 1900 and in 1903 was instructor in typewriting. type-writing. He was appointed registrar regis-trar in. 1904. He received a B.S. degree in 1924. As registrar, Mr. Hayes developed develop-ed a remarkable memory for names and faces. During the first 35 years on the campus he knew and could recognize all the faces and names of the students and faculty. He has represented the Brigham Young University at numerous conventions for registrars in the east through the years. The Brigham Young University campus consisted of two buildings on the lower campus, Mr. Hayes recalls, when he came to the university. uni-versity. He has three sons and four daughters, 13 grandchildren grandchild-ren and one great-grand child. |
