Show Funeral II it on roiilutkd For Y;ilir 3lallli'vs Very impressive funeral rites were conducted Wednesday in the Second ward LDS chapel for Walter Walt-er Matthews, Pleasant Grove's oldest old-est citizen. Tb,e service directed by Bishop Reed 0. Walker, began at two o'clock. Invocation was offered by Benjamin Walker. A -mixed quartette, Mrs. Lydia Hilton, Mrs. Ruby Scott, . Elwood and Leo Allen sang "Abide With Me". They were accompanied by Mrs. Helen Allen. A life sketch was read by Miss Mary Lou Matthews. '"f First speaker, B. H. Adams paid tribute to Mr. Matthews work of pioneering both in this country and Canada, and chose to speak on the resurrection of Christ, as the means by which all "may live after death. t Bishop A. L. Cullimore, after eulogizing the noble life and work of the departed, stressed the" thot that "It is in God's plan that we die, as well as be born," and read the poem a "Famous Father." Closing remarks of sympathy and appreciation were voiced by Bishop Walker. A vocal solo, "O My Father Knows" was rendered by Mrs, Marie Brown, accompanied by Mary Neves; who also played prelude organ music. The closing number "Softly and Tenderly, Jesus Jes-us Is Calling" was sung by the mixed quartette. ' Benediction was pronounced by Robert Marrott of the bishopric. Mortuary was made in the Pleas-j ant Grove City cemetery, where thir dedicatory prayer WM att eied by Bishop H.'S. Walker. Pallbearers, Pallbear-ers, sons ; and; grandsonB of the dead man jvere Douglas Matthews, Earl Matthews, Tom Adamwon, Royce Matthews, Blaine Frampton and Calvta Frampton. Mr. "Matthews was born in Wales England, December 26, 1854, a son of James and Beatea Evans Matth ews. He came to the United States when he was 27 yeears old and had lived in Pleasant Grove for the past 60 years. For many years he worked for the railroad. Mr. Matthews married mar-ried Margaret Baxtern 1882. She died in 1944. He is survived by the' following children: Mrs. Elizabeth Kemp, Mrs. Beata Adamson, Mrs. Margaret Mar-garet Frampton, Glen, CorHelius M., and Howard M. Matthews, all of Pleasant Grove; Douglas Matthews, Matth-ews, Murray; John Matthews, Los Angeles; 29 grandchildren; 17 1 great-grandchildren. Among out pf town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were John Matthews of Los Angeles, Ang-eles, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Matth ews and family of Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Baxter of Springvllle, i Mr. and Mrs. Reed Matthews of Ptoche, Nevada, A. L Cullimore of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Nelson Nel-son and two daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Oakey of Leht Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ch'ris'tensen f Midyate, j.
