Windsor 34; Third 32 (Overtime) Manila Ward almost clinched first place spot in the stake "M" Men basketball race by winning from the Second Ward Saturday, 38-31; Third Ward Monday, 57-28,, and First Ward Wednesday, 39-30. A large crowd mostly from Manila was on hand Saturday night to witness the see-saw struggle strug-gle between Manila and Second, the two leading teams, and it was not until the last few minutes of play that Manila clinched the contest con-test 38-31. First Ward made a fair showing against Manila Wednesday Wednes-day night but was unable to keep tip the pace of the league leaders So went down fighting 39-30. Carter, Car-ter, the league leading scorer, made 14 points while Bud Swenson Swen-son hit the hoop for 18 points to challenge his team-mates for 2nd half scoring honors. The Second Warders, coached by Eldon Johnson, are in undisputed second place losing only to Manila sc far in league play. Although losing to Manila Saturday they have established themselves so far as the second best team by win-ring win-ring from Windsor Monday 49-38 and from Lindon Wednseday in two overtime periods 29-27. Mathews, Math-ews, Smith and Swenson have been dividingv scoring honors quite equaly all season and Hicks, tie-sides tie-sides contributing to the scoring, has been doing some fine defensive defen-sive play; all of which, has accounted ac-counted for the fine showing of the Second Ward team. Wednesday night two overtime games were played It took the Second Ward two ovetime periods to stave off the challenge of the Lindon Ward team before winning 29-27. Mathews scored the winning win-ning basket, ( a long shot from the side. Keetch, Lindon center, almost beat the Second Ward Einglehanded as he scored 16 of his teams 27 points. Hicks, guard for Second, made 10 points. Windsor had to go all out to defeat Third Ward 34-32 in a-nother a-nother overtime game which sank the Third Ward team into the cellar position. One more series of games will be played next Monday night, February 21st, which will ring rfown the curtain on this year's games unless Manila loses and Second wins which would necessitate necess-itate a playoff.
