Show Wendell W. (iillman i i ' - V ; I ! ' ', K - : . First Sorsreant Wendell W. Cilhuan. who is at present station-I e.i at Camp Gordon, Auirnsta. Florida, is the son of .1. V. and F.stella Wa'ikor GiUnia:!. of tia-Viinisor tia-Viinisor ward, llo was boin April 2. P11.?. at Linden. He attended the Linden school and the Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove Hi.ch School. He too'; part in athletics, playing; on the basket ball team. He was interested in scout and 4-H club work. He received a-vnrds a-vnrds for resrular attendance in church organizations. In February. 1041. he joined the Utah National Guard.' On Mar.-h 3. 1041. the Service Battery. -2nd Eatttalion. CCend Field Artillery, to -which he belorrced. was inducted into Federal service. On March 17 they left for Sr.n L'.;s: Obispo California, for training-. Trair.insr continued thru the summer and fa!l and on December 2 they were ordered to ore of the islands in the Pacific. Put with the attack of Pearl Harbor. th-v were kept in the United States and sent down the- coast of Lower California to g-.iard the vital Defense De-fense riants and aircraft factories. Aftenvards they -svere sent to Fort Lewis, Washington. From April 15 to June 10 was spent on the firing range at Yakima, Yak-ima, Washington. After which they returned to normal camp duties dut-ies and later was sent to Camp Forest .Tennessee. Wendell received his promotion to Corporal, June 7, 1941. In two months he was promoted to Sergeant Ser-geant and on October 16 of the same year was made First Sergeant. Ser-geant. It is his responsibility to take care of the records of his battery. |
