Show New Regulation On Cutting Christmas Trees The city officials are in receipt of a letter from J. Whitney Floyd, chief forester-fire warden of Utah, which states that the 1941 legislature legisla-ture passed laws regulating the cutting cut-ting of trees on public land and sale and tagging of all Christmas trees. The law requires the approval ap-proval of the state forester for cutting cut-ting of trees so that all persons who desire to cut them must procure pro-cure a permit from the forest supervisor su-pervisor of the region from where the trees are to be taken. Every tree is to be tagged whether it is sold or given' away. The primary purpose of this sales and tagging program is to curb the existing illegal cutting of trees and to discourage the sale of them , to merchants who have not obtained ob-tained their trees through legitimate legiti-mate sources. It is not the plan to discourage the use of trees at Christmas time but to regulate the theft of them and to discourage the cutting of them where such practice contributes to the damage to our watersheds. Blank forms and tags are available avail-able at city and county offices for recording necessary data by retail and wholesale dealers. Shipping invoices in-voices are required where trees are purchased from wholesale dealers. |
