Show Veterans Employed OnFarmCanQualify Under the G. L Bill i Veterans who are engaged in farming for themselves or who are employed full time on a year round basis are eligible to receive training on the farm while they are working. Under this program, the veterans are eligible for subsistance payments pay-ments of as -much as $65 per month for single and $90 per month for married veterans while they are training. To be eligible for the training and the subsistance payments the veteran vet-eran must be engaged in agricultur? on a full time basis or be working at least 40 hours a week if employed employ-ed on a farm other than, his own. The training will involve attendance attend-ance a afternoon or evening classes for a minimum of 200 hours per year and 50 to 100 hours of supervision super-vision by a trained agriculturist will be given on the farm. The classes will be set up to meet the interests and desires of the trainees and are sure to include some ol the following subjects: Fruit production, pro-duction, dairying, poultry farming, farm management and accounting, farm machinerey repair, soil management, man-agement, field crops and others for which there is sufficient demand. Most of the class work will be given during the winter months but the law provides that at least eight hours be given each trainee each month. The instructional program will be carried on by the high schools under the dirtction of the Agricultural depart.mens. Special instructors will be engaged to teach the classes. To get into the program the veteran should make application through the veterans office in Provo to receive this training and the government subsistance. He should also make application to have his farm approved as a training center or the farm on which he is employed, employ-ed, the farm owner makes - 'he application, jn the latter case. This form may be obtained from Jean A. Fugal, instructor in vocational agriculture at the. local high school; or it may be obtained by writing the State Department of Public Instruction, State Capitol Bldg., Salt Lake City. It should be clearly understood . that this is a bona fide training program, to train or add to the training of veterans who are now farming or are planning to farm. Unless the veteran is working on "a year round basis on the farm he cannot qualify. Interested veterans who can qualify for this training are urged to do so. It is not a government dole, but a means of providing the educational opportun-,. opportun-,. ity lo veteians on the form comparable com-parable to the training which other veterans are getting in the trade schools and colleges under their G. I. Bill of Rights. |
