Show (i. Kdward Wilson i . f G. Kdwnrd Wilson, Seaman Kirst Class is serving with the U. S. Navy "Somewhere in the Pacific. " He enlisted March 2K, 11)11 at Salt Lake City, and was assigned to the U. S. S. Chester as Seaman 2nd Class. At the outbreak of the war he was promoted to Seaman 1st Class. Kdwnrd has participated in several sev-eral major engagements. His ship took nn active part in the battle at Pearl Harbor. It was also one of the ships in the attack on the Gilbert and Marshall Island, where it was damaged and several of the crew killed. He was also in the battle of the Coral Sea, during which his ship picked up over one thousand survivors from the torpedoed torpe-doed Lexington. In October, 1912, during one of the battles of the Solomon Islands, his ship was torpedoed tor-pedoed twice. He has spent several months in convoy service, conveying transports trans-ports to Australia. Kdward has been given an "K" award for efficiency, and awarded campaign and service bars for his participation in major battles. A son of George and Florence Itappleye Wilson, he was born Mar. Hi, at I'ayson, Utah. He received his early education at I'rovo and in 1937 the family moved to Pleasant Grove where Kdward attended the Pleasant Grove High School. Near the end of his Junior year, he discontinued dis-continued school to enter the U. S. Navy. In June, 1912 and again in February, Feb-ruary, 1913 he spent short leaves at home but is now again in active service. |
