Show Prospectors Interested In Plant That 'Eats' Gold The plant known as "horsetail" or "scouring plant" is actually a gold eater. Found most commonly common-ly where gold is present in the soil, this plant absorbs gold from the soil and stores it in its tissues. Although approximately 4 ounces of gold is found in a ton of horsetail, horse-tail, prospectors are not interested in the plant as a source of gold but, rather, as an indicator of gold in the ground. Because of its high silica content, this plant was also a favorite in olden times for scrubbing scrub-bing table tops, pots and pans. |
