Show j The Merry Makers club met at i the home of Mrs. Leo T. Shelley last j Friday afternoon, June 8. The time was spent in games and merry making, mak-ing, after which a dainty lunch was served. There were ten club members mem-bers present with Mrs. Grace Coats and Mrs. Lucile Robinson as guests. Earl Holmstead, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Holmstead, was brought home last Friday from the Lehl hospital, hos-pital, where he had undergone an operation for hernia. He Is improving im-proving rapidly. Miss Vivian Merikoffer celebrated her eighth birthday Thursday, June 7, by having a birthday party. Sixteen friends were present and the young people enjoyed playing games after which the mother of the young hostess, Mi's. Albert Merikoffer, Meri-koffer, served a tasty lunch. Mrs. Owen D. West formerly Miss Eva Stice, and two children, Owen Jr. and Anne of New York City, are visiting here with Mrs. West's parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Stice. They will remain here for the summer months and will be joined later by Mr. West who will accompany them back to New York. Mrs. George Moss was hostess Wednesday afternoon to the members mem-bers of the Variety Club. Bridge was played at three tables, the guest prize being won by Mrs. Glen Robinson Rob-inson and the club prize by Mrs. Adair Bromley. A dainty lunch was served at the small tables late in the afternoon. There were present as special guests Mrs. Alan Pearson, Mrs. Glen Robinson, Mrs. Sherman RDbinson, Mrs. Afton Steiner and Mrs. David Kahn. Mrs. Jesse B. Burch entertained the Feality club on Wednesday afternoon after-noon at her home. Three tables of bridge were played, the club prize being won by Mrs. John Clarke and the guest prize by Mrs. Robert Brown. Late in the afternoon a delicious lunch was served, Miss Ruth Birk assisting the hostess. The special spec-ial guests bidden were Mrs. Walter Devey, Jr., .Mrs. Earl Barratt, and! Miss Mary Ashby of this city; Mrs. ' Elmer Clarkson of Provo and Mrs.! Robert Brow.n of Spanish Fork. Miss Agnes N. Firmage has turned from Long Beach, E nia, where she has spent the; '." six months. Mrs. Ellen Proctor, who has been confined to her home and bed for some weeks past, is on the improve. Miss Gail Elton is spending ten days here with her grandfather, Niels Nelson and family. Miss Mary Ashby left last night by train for New York City. On June 23rd she will be married to E. Wesley Wes-ley Porter, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Porter of Provo. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Ashby. They will make their home in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to her departure Miss Ashby was extensively entertained. The socials given in her honor include a luncheon party last Saturday afternoon after-noon with Mrs. John Lewis of Provo Pro-vo as hostess; a dinner party given by Mrs. H. K. Porter Tuesday evening eve-ning at Provo;. and a party given by the Fidelas Social Unit of the B. Y. U. at the home of Miss Erma Acord Thursday afternoon of last week. She was presented with a lovely gift at each party accompanied by the best wishes of the donors. Mrs. Clyde Birk entertained at dinner Tuesday in compliment to Mr. and Mrs. Leo Peterson, Mrs. J. B. Rush, Leo and June Rush, of San Diego, California. Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Wright of Twin Falls, Idaho, were visitors here this week with relatives. Mr. Wright is employed at radio station, KTFI there. Mrs. W. A. Robinson, Mrs. Earl McTague and Miss Bessie Robinson were guests of relatives in Salt Lake Tuesday night and Wednesday. The special attraction was their attendance atten-dance Tuesday night at a dance revue re-vue in which two of Mrs. Robinson's grandchildren participated. Last Friday night Dr. and Mrs. James Chad wick entertained thirty-two thirty-two of their friends at a beefsteak fry at the Cave Camp in American Fork canyon. Supper was served at four tables, cafeteria style and each person enjoyed frying his own steak on rocks heated for the purpose pur-pose in the bon-fire. A "Treasure Hunt" followed the supper and then the guests were entertained around the bon-fire by several selections played by Dr. V. F. Houston on his piano-accordian, and a bear story told by "Hap" Holmstead. The party divided into four groups and dramatized Mother Goose rhymes Lige Chipman and E. H. Devey's group won the prize for dramatizing 'Mary Had a Little Lamb". Thr Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. Barratt, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Chadwick left Sunday afternoon for Idaho Falls where for two days, Monday and Tuesday, they represented the American Amer-ican Fork Lions Club at the annual convention of the clubs from Utah and Idaho. The trip was greatly enjoyed en-joyed by the four. -Will Wright left Thursday of last week for Twin Falls, Idaho, after spending several days here visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wright and making arrangements for the summer engagement of the local Navigators Orchestra to play in Twin Falls during the summer. The boys will be heard over the rado station KTFI, Twin Falls, two nights a week and will also play at Radio Land. Glade Jorgensen, Joseph Clayson and Ray Larson are the members from here in addition to Mr. Wright, who with a player from Provo and three from Pleasant Grove make up the orchestra for the summer. present were Messrs. and Mesdames "Hap" Holmstead, V. Devey, John Clarke, Kenneth Noyes, Walter Devey Jr., John Wing, David Taylor Mark Coddington, Glen Sykes, Leo" Van Wagoner, Rulon Nicholes, Stanford Stan-ford Briggs and Vern Chipman. Mr. and Mrs. Ren Anderson of American Fork are the proud grandparents grand-parents of a grandson who arrived at Vineyard at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Holdaway Tuesday mom-mg. mom-mg. The mother formerly was Miss Susie Anderson and she and the babe are doing nicely. |
