Show IL.D.S. Church Plans Wide Beautif ication Program A higher standard in appearance and utility of Church property, where ever located, is the objective of a Church-wide beautification program undertaken jointly by the General Authorities, the Church Security Committee and the Auxiliary Auxil-iary organizations. This program concerns every community com-munity in Utah, Idaho and where-ever where-ever ward chapels are located, stake tabernacles and Latter-day Saint homes. The generous offer of the First Presidency to provide material assistance from the general funds of the Church to make these improvements improve-ments in chapel utility and appearance, appear-ance, is expected to be productive of unusual results in this program. Instructions are being forwarded to ward bishoprics, stake presidencies presiden-cies and others concerned. These instructions will give information relative to the commencement of the program, means the procedure in the securing of help and financial aid in these developments. This unusual program started by the Church has a four-fold aim. 1. To raise the standard of beauty, beau-ty, attractiveness and utility of Church buildings and property In all communities. 2. To improve the standard of Latter-day Saints in their own lives, in their homes and their communities, communi-ties, and to encourage industry among the residents of these cities and communities. 3. To provide work for men and women who are unemployed. 4. To increase safety and remove fire and other hazards from Church buildings. To direct this beautification program pro-gram the Church has set up a central cen-tral committee. This committee has representation from the Presiding Bishops Office, the Church Security Committee, each of the auxiliary organizations, and experts in the fields of landscaping, decoration and building construction. Photographs or drawings of Church buildings and grounds are requested from each bishopric, and in the cases of stake tabernacles, from each stake presidency. These photographs together with requests and proposals for beautification and improvement will be studied by the committee and expert advice and suggestions will be forwarded. Financial aid for this program will be secured by ward bishops and stake presidencies through the usual channel of application to the Presiding Bishops Office in Salt Lake City, and from private donations dona-tions of labor and money solicited locally. Suggestions will be given on landscaping, land-scaping, remodeling, removal of hazards, and on general improvement improve-ment of the buildings and grounds. Survey blanks and questionnaires are being sent to each bishopric and stake presidency, to assist them In studying the conditions of their buildings and to aid in determining the work to be done and the nature of projects needed. Attention is also to be given in the program to the work of custodians and caretakers. care-takers. The questions to be answered answ-ered indicate the recognized need of competent and industrious caretakers, care-takers, who are interested in the appearance and upkeep of Church property. Visitors to the wards from the general authorities and the auxiliary auxil-iary general boards will give needed information and advice to ward and stake officers concerning the program pro-gram and these visitors will be in a position to offer suggestions for improvement im-provement of buildings and grounds. . n |
