Show Ten Years Ago iNow (Taken from files of April 14, 1923) Ten Yearg Ago Now Arbor Day, April 16th, will be observed ob-served in our city by a general cleaning up and beautifying of homes and lots. Business houses and schools are requested to close for the day that all may unite in the cleanup work. Ten Years Ago Now Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Brown, who have been employed at the Pacific Mine since last November, made a difficult and dangerous trip down the canyon, which took them a day, a night and till almost noon the next day to reach the Cave Camp. They started out about 5:30 a. m. Monday. At 11 that night they reached South Fork, and encountered encounter-ed deep snow, which they waded thru up to their hips. They sX'nt that night in the open, having built a fire. Tsn Years Ago Now The Alpine stake is about to install in-stall an up-to-date pipe organ in the tabernacle. The building was dedicated dedi-cated in October, 1915, and a small reed organ has been used since. Sunday, June 3rd, is to be known as Brigham Young day, and the Sunday Sun-day School membership will be asked ask-ed to contribute 10c each towards the organ fund. Ten Years Ago Now The main feeding and laying house belonging to O. A. Thrasher was entirely en-tirely destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon. after-noon. Both American Fork and Lehi fire departments were on the Job. about liiOU bushels ol gram were burned, besides tools, other equipment, equip-ment, some chickens and the 260'x30' building. The total loss was $7,000, covered by insurance. The basketball boys of the H. S., Alpine Division Champs for 1923, were in the limelight Wednesday morning at the school when special award exercises were held. The big pennant, was awarded by Principal David Mitchell of the Lehi School. The boys, Grant Ingersoll, Elijah Chipman, Eldon Chipman, Peter Condor, Dean Nielsen and James Chadwick, Clyde Birk and Alex Karren, with their Athletic Manager Elmo Crookston and the yellmasters, Melvin GriJit and Henry Martia were each presented with sweaters. |
