Show RELIEF SOCIETIES OF STAKE HOLD SOCIAL SERVICE MEETING The Relief Societies of the six wards of the Timpanogos Stake held their social service meeting, conjointly in the tabernacle Tuesday Tues-day afternoon. Dr. Grant Y. Anderson gave the lesson, the subject being "Acquiring "Acquir-ing the Use of Speech" and "Correcting "Cor-recting Defective Speech". A very good representation of all wards were present. Some of the interesting inter-esting facts brought out were: Girl babies talk 2 to 4 months earlier" than boys. There are more boys than girls who have defective speech. Most children begin to talk at 2 years of age. Names of persons per-sons and objects are easiest to learn. A deaf person can learn to talk through lip reading. I Children attain proper speech through parents and other people j speaking correctly at home. Baby talk teaches children bad habits' that have to be overcome as thej child grows older. A shock of fright will interfere with speech. At two years of age if the child ' does not talk it should be given special attention by a physician. The common causes for defective speech are tongue tie, cleft palate I and hair lip. Stammering can be cured when the body is physically fit and special attention is given to the child. It is easier to cure a child before it is four years old than later. Nervousness and stut-terng stut-terng usually go together. Self confidence is a great aid in correct ing stuttering. Those attempting to take core of children who stutter stut-ter should ennunciate slowly and carefully and teach the child to concentrate on what he is saying. n . |
