Show The "Affairs of Cellini" Provide Much Fun If you're in the entertainment market for a landslide of laughs, you've a rare treat in store in "The Affairs of Cellini," starring Constance Con-stance Bennett and Fredric March, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, September 23, 24 and 25, at the Cameo Theatre. Sprightly Story The story opens with the fatuous, henpecked old Duke of Florence deciding de-ciding to hang Cellini for his latest offense. He goes to his workshop and is so intrigued with the lovely model, Angela, that he has her carried car-ried off to the summer palace. The Duchess comes to investigate the notorious lover, Cellini, at first hand, and arranges a rendezvous for that evening also at the summer palace. After an hilarious scene in which, unknown to each other, the Duke and Duchess entertain their respective respec-tive lights o'love in their adjoining chambers, Cellini carries off Angela to his mountain hideaway. He deserts de-serts her, however, when she fails to respond to his impassioned, poetic entreaties, and returns to the palace to brave the anger of the Duke and Duchess. He manages to ingratiate himself again with the Duchess, but when, at the Duke's command, he brings Angela to a palace banquet, the jealous Duchess takes an impulsive im-pulsive revenge which reveals their affair. The Duke has just begun to denounce the Duchess for her indiscretion indis-cretion when the doltish Angela reveals re-veals the situation between the Duke and herself. The Duches trips off to Florence with Cellini, leaving the Duke at last with the fair model. Cast Splendid Constance Bennett is at her delightful de-lightful best as the dallying Duchess, and Frank Morgan, repeating the role of the Duke which he originated in the stage play, is better than we have ever seen him. Fay Wray is also in the cast. |
