Show Political Notes Last Saturday afternoon a reception recep-tion was given by Airs. James Chip-man Chip-man at her home, honoring Mrs. R. L. Ashby of this city, a candidate on the Republican ticket for the office of state representative. Over two hundred friends and supporters of Mrs. Ashby attended the reception, many coming from Pleasant Grove, Lehi and Provo- Among the distinguished distin-guished visitors, several of whom spoke, were Frederick Loofbourrow and Don B. Colton, Republican nominees for United States con- gressman and senator, respectively; also Judge and Mrs- Straup, Miss Straup, Mrs. E. O. Leatherwood, and Mrs. Dunwon, all of Salt Lake. A number of the candidates on the county ticket also were present. Entertainment during the afternoon after-noon consisted of vocal selections by Misses Eda and Bonna Ashby and Ruth Giddings, Miss Ann Clayson accompanying, and vocal duets, trios and Quartets fov Mesdames Rose- braugh, Fuller, Dixon and Bring- il hurst of Salt Lake- Their accom- " panist was Miss Alton Pitt. Refreshments were served in the w dining room over which Mrs. Lenard Chipman presided. A series of cottage meetings un- der the auspices of the senior and 1 junior Republican Ladies organiza- i tions of the city have been held i during the week. On Monday night I two were held, one at the home of ; ; Wayne Chadwick and the other at i the home of Mrs- Bert Adamson, of the first and second districts. On : Wednesday night three were held at the homes of Mrs. Mate Earl, first district; Mrs. Thomas Coddington, fourth district, and Mrs. Reed Robinson, Rob-inson, third district. The Republican Republi-can county candidates, John E-Booth E-Booth and A. V. Watkins, for state senators; Jesse N. Ellertson and Neil Dahle for county commissioners; commission-ers; Sherman Christensen for county coun-ty attorney, Daryl Fowler for county treasurer; H- E. McNiel for county sheriff; Frank Salisbury for county clerk; Mrs. R. L. Ashby, Charles Hawkins, Swen O. Nielsen, Angus Taylor and H- W. Jaocbs, for representatives; repre-sentatives; Wesley Jense for auditor; audi-tor; Braxton Barnett for assessor;; Hugh Price for surveyor and Ralph Elliott for recorder, were present one or both nights and made short speeches. Musical entertainment was given at each place and refreshments refresh-ments were served. A Republican rally will be held either Thursday or Friday night of next week in American Fork. Arrangements are being made to secure se-cure Don B- Colton and Frederick J Loofbourrow as the speakers. Full arrangements had not been made and the definite time, place, etc., f will be announced on placards. Tonight (Friday) in the city hall ( at 7:30 o'clock, a meeting of all Re- ( publican workers of all four districts wiU be held. A good attendance is desired. i j In the city hall tonight (Friday) , at 8 p- m. there will be held a Democratic Dem-ocratic rally to which everyone is , invited. The rally Is being sponsor- , ed by the ladies Democratic organ!- ; zations of the city. The two principal speakers of the evening wail be Burton W- Musser and Warwick Lamoreaux of Salt Lake City. Good musical numbers will be rendered by talent from the B. Y. U., Provo. The second of the three Democratic Demo-cratic rallies to be held before election elec-tion will be held in the city hall next Tuesday night, October 30th, when Senator William H. King, Hugh B- Brown and Delbert M. Drainer of Salt Lake, and Congressman Congress-man J. Will Robinson of Provo, will be the speakers- "Tabby" and "Bun" will be on hand with some campaign songs. The candidates on the Democratic county ticket also are expected to be present. Everybody Every-body is invited. On November 5th, the night be-1 be-1 fore election, the Democrats will stage the third rally in the Cameo , theatre. There will be present ; speakers of state and county import-; import-; ance, a free picture show will be ' given and some good musical numbers. |
