Show Prominent Church Worker Called By Death John Henry Davis, 64, respected and beloved resident of American Fork for thirty-two years, died in a Salt Lake hospital at 6 a. m. Thursday. Death was due to complications com-plications following an operation for an abscess on the pelvis, performed Wednesday morning. Mr. Davis was born in Wales, a son of John R. and Hannah Thomas Davis, who joined the Latter-day Saint church there and came to Utah when the deceased was sixteen six-teen years of age. They first settled in Spanish Fork. Mr. Davis worked in the coal mines in Sofield for some time and was prominent in the rescue work there in the explosion explo-sion disaster in May, 1900. He married Miss Janet Adamson April 29, 1891, and to them ten children were born, nine of whom surive. His wife died April 18, 1927. , In February, 1930, he married Agnes N. Adamson of Salt Lake. Mr. Davis was a true Latter-day Saint, full of faith and eager to j further the Gospel work. He filled a mission to Wales during his early I married life, served in various church j capacities; for many years was a j member of the First ward bishopric, i the ward choir and an ardent Gene-j Gene-j alogical worker, until recently head- ing this work in this stake. Possessing Possess-ing a splendid tenor voice he took .an active part in music. He held the office of high priest at the time of his demise. Mr. Davis was employed as a deliverer de-liverer of the city mail and performed per-formed his work with a cheery whistle or humming a tune along his route. Surviving are his wife, four sons, David, Howell and Reed Davis of this city; Hyrum Davis,; Susanville, California, five daughters, Mrs. Ethel Gammell, and Fern Davis, American Fork; Mrs. May Kautzman Butte, Montana ; Mrs. Hannah Snow, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Jessie Gillispi, Duchesne, a brother, Jeremiah Davis of Maple ton; and Mrs. Hannah Eccles, Monrovia, California. Funeral sendees will be held at 12:30 p. m. in the stake tabernacle on Sunday. |
