Show Pleasant Grove Canning Co. Siold Stockholders Meeting The annual stockholders meeting of the Pleasant Grove Canning Co., was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p. m. at their offices. The board was re-elected as follows: W. S. Cnipman, president; presi-dent; George H. Dern, vice-president; directors: J. R.' Halliday, Alex Thornton, Thorn-ton, A. L. Cullimore, James II. Walker Walk-er and Albert Anderson; manager, Clifford L. Wright. The following report was given of the year's work: From the beginning of the season until its close the local plant has been the busiest spot in this community. com-munity. There were ten carloads of cold pack strawberries packed, mostly in 50 gallon barrels. The balance of the crop was canned. There were 5,300 cases of tomatoes, 52,500 cases of tomato to-mato pulp, 4,000 cases of cherries or most of the pie cherries raised in Utah county. 6,000 cases of beans and 32,000 cases of apples in No. 10 cans, the largest pack ever put up by the local concern. The business handled by the local plant would equal if not surpass that of a large merchandising business. Other industries have been benefited by the canning business as follows: Paid out for labels $ 7,000 Sugar 12,000 Barrels 2,000 fel 4,000 Labor 51,000 Cans 76,000 Boxes 13,000 Paid to farmers .' 96,000 Total $261,000 About $400,000 was handled through the Canning Co. Four hundred acres of tomatoes were used in last year's run and a large acreage is being contracted con-tracted for next year's pack. More than 110,000 bushel of apples were packed by the local plant which run until the middle of January. The large (pack is practically sold and is being shipped daily. The outlook for the coming season is bright and a larger pack than last year is predicted. |
