Show FINAL TRIBUTE PA TO FORMER ' UTAH COUNTY COMMISSIONER Funeral services for A. O. Smoot, who died Friday following a two months illness, were held Sunday in the Utah stake tabernacle at Provo. Over 2000 persons, including includ-ing high church officials, county officers, of-ficers, judges and school officials, were present to pay tribute to the fine record and sterling character of the deceased. Included in the list of speakers were Governor Henry H. Blood, President J. Golden Kimball of the First Council of Seventy, Justice Martin M. Larson of the state supreme su-preme court, President Thomas N. Taylor of the Utah stake of Zion, City Commissioner Walter P. Whitehead. White-head. Professor J. M. Jensen, a former for-mer teacher of Mr. Smoot, who read tributes received by the family, and Bishop Terry J. Oldroyd of the Sixth ward, who conducted the services. ser-vices. Mr. Smoot served Utah county for 10 years as commissioner, .spending more than 30 years of his life in public service. He was mayor of Provo City for several terms as well a.s having served as city commissioner commis-sioner for many years. He was chairman of the court of honor in Utah stake. President Taylor, in speaking, stated thsit "Owen Smoot had the wonderful gift of being able to choose the big things of lire. He gathered round him men and women wom-en who wore great and true friends. I can't imagine anything more valuable val-uable In life than to build an army of friends. lie h.is carried the name of Abraham Owen Smoot with di--nity." |
