Show selective service items of interest I 1 fourteen day ln Furlou im boughs gim for inductees acting in conjunction with the war wai department national headquarters teis of the selective service system has announced details of a plan to transfer tian all inductees to the enlisted reserve reene corps immediately med lately after induction and to send them home at government expense for fourteen days daye to adjust personal affairs at falis the new arrangement replaces the present system of granting inductees ten day furloughs furroughs upon bequest aest and la is expected to elmin nate any injustices which might occur to men inducted immediately following physical examination by the army althou although 11 every attempt ha been mace made to grant ten day tur fur loughe upon request le quest national headquarters said that in some instances such requests had been denied and that in addition in other cases inductees were unable to pay their transportation to return home As the new system calls tor for the immediate release of all men who wish to go lhome home and payment of the costs of their travel by the army national headquarters said that there would be no reason for or dia alir elimination against any inductee in its memorandum to state directors dire re national headquarters said the present policy of granting grantin ir furloughs furroughs to inducted men will be discontinued on june 16 15 1942 or 01 as soon thereafter as arrange ments can be made by conference between it the e state director and the corps area commander the new procedure will provide that every inducted man will be released from active service at the induction station for a period ot up approximately proximately fourteen days unless he prefers to proceed directly to the reception center this s w will be accomplished by transferring the inducted man to the Enli enlisted reserve corps immediately following his induction and issuing orders recalling him to active service at the end of the fourteen day period the army will furnish transportation por tation meals and lodging of hsuch reservist en route to the city in which the local board is lo 10 bated and from that point to the reception center there will be no change in the present procedure for delivery of to the induction atlon by the local board or toi foi the return of rejected men to the ocal local board area from the induction station inducted men who do not desire to return to their homes will be forwarded direct from the abduction station to the reception center discussing the elimination 11 ot of injustices national headquarters Is bald aid many ot of the disadvantages ot of the present estem will be eliminated in the new procedure every man who wishes to return to his home will be given the ty to do so without being required to establish his reasons tor for returning investigation and ree rec omme dation by the local board Is no longer necessary reservists are released from active service at the induction station instead of the reception center they travel at government expense in local board groups under an appointed leader |
