Show C i ty ity council approves ve budget at the regular meeting of the ci fop council on tuesday evening ol of this week approval was given to a tentative nta tive budget for parowan carowan city h for the 1945 calendar year A special ine meeting eting of the council last month was vlas used in drawing up the budget land much of the time at the regular anee ting was also spent on the matter the budget as approved for hearing ng calls for an expenditure of 28 ses which is well within the ci tys lys estimated receipts but is somewhat higher than the budget tor for the tur current Sl current rent year two main causes of the raise is the need for increased for paying officers pa salaries laries occasioned by the war time wage levels and the increased cost ot of supplies for the power and water L il system system another reason is that list last years budget only set seit up half enough to cover the interest on the outstanding hydroelectric hydro electric and water bonds 1 several other items in the budget were raised slightly from what they were last year A public hearing on the proposed budget has been set for tuesday evening december 26 ait 8 and the budget will be tel passed at the same meeting the community projects commilee jatee of the parowan carowan exchange club consisting of W clair rowley john H pendleton and newell B weight met inet with the council to present a series of projects which they considered as important and felt should be undertaken by the city some of there projects are for the present and some are for the future or post war period kere projects listed by the committee were as follows A skating pond at the gravel trap ilith the suggestion thal hat it be built pup up by turning in a little water each inight night and another suggestion that t K F t be lighted by a short eau exu ex tiar it to the power line that is already at the division just below the trap A community swimming pool to be 6 constructed possibly as a make work project after the war but with plans and specifications being made ready now beautifying the space between the curb and the sidewalk on both sides ot of main street for four blocks beautification of the city park Improve improvements at the city race track to include planting grass in certain areas and trees in others a jong with improvement and enlargement lar gement of the grandstand at that place extending a lighting system to the five mile recreation camp with the cooperation of the forest service the committee was informed by mitchell that he and water supervisor visor had already made plans lor or the ice skating pond and that it would be made when hard freezing w weather set in st A all other projects were approved teas Qs necessary by the council and the committees aid asked in putting some of them over this was true of the swimming pool with the com to find out what cost of construction c st and operation would be by contacting cities that have com pools the committee is also to continue to work with the city oin the beautification of the city park aby by helping in naming committees and doing other things to spur the arzro work on ok the need for a general cleanup clean up gland beautification program to involve the entire city was considered and ways and means of conducting such a campaign when the time come were also worked out with arthe club committee to aid in this also i i mayor mitchell reported that because of the heavy load on the trans i if formers winch which supply power to the I 1 dair dairy y co court house and school house that new and larger transformers had to be purchased at a cost of about neither place was able to operate their electrical ly driven equipment with the school jand d cu court t house stokers smokers particularly affected e t d then the n t the e dairy companas comp anys va power 1 oad load is is still t ill being increased each year with the addition of new power driven machinery |
