Show RECORD RAINSTORM HITS PAROWAN ON SUNDAY the storm which covered most of the east end of parowan carowan valley and was especially heavy out near little creek paragonah Para gonah and along our foothill area east of town was about the biggest ever to come to this valley with inches of water measured in less than two hours at the local weather station while the storm reach down into the south and west fields very heavy that section of the valley from the old chimney meadow area south to the mouth of first left hand canyon was really treated to a downfall of could burst proportions most of the residents of the e east ast side of the city feel that there was almost an inch more water fell at the edge of town than at the weather station and rivers of water ran down all the streets on that side of the city A stream much larger than the city and fields ditches could handle soon came out of the con with biggest part of it being turned down the breakwater south of town where it did some damage to crops in the south field A goodly share of this water come out of the canyon behind the roller mill with the result that the roller mill ditch was filled up with mud for quite a distance the farms which are irrigated by the water from coop valley were soon getting all the water their own ers and several hired hands could take care of with some crops damaged in that area especially hay in the piles floods also came from the para gonah and little creek canyon with the later one being about the biggest on record it damaged the road up that canyon considerably making it impassable for a short time washouts Wa shouts in the road up to the reservoir up paragonah Para gonah canyon also caused several cars to be marooned up there overnight no extensive damage was done to the new oil road up parowan carowan canyon although it was covered with rocks mud and rubbish washed down from the hill sides above it no high water came from above the forbay where all of the water was kept in the hydroelectric pipeline another rain of almost equal proportions ors but which lasted for only a brief period came on monday afternoon late caus causing ing more floods in the vicinity of paragonah Para gonah and the H L adams and balmon imon H orton farms this storm brought about 20 of an inch of 01 additional rain to the parowan carowan area as measured at the weather station other storms during the week have hit in the lower parts of the valley with two of downpour proportions hitting the lower end of the south and west fields and the west hills coming on tuesday and wednesday A storm in the second lefthand monday evening brought down a freshet which car carried ried a lot of trash which shut off the intake of the hydro electric water me causing almost mo st an hours interruption in our power mrs clinton thornton left one day last week for layton utah to stay with her people for awhile she has been here with the merrill thornton family for about five months miss eva adams returned to her employment in salt lake city on tuesday after spending the past few weeks at her home here visiting with relatives mrs hildreth B patten was operated ate d on last thursday at the iron county hospital for appendicitis an and d although her recovery has been rather slow she is expected to be able to come home right away mr and mrs grant benson anc and mr and mrs blain bensor benson and their families have visited here this week with their mother mrs lena benson grant and his family are down from salt lake city where they reside and blain and his family have spent the past month there and are on their way back to kingman arizona where blain teaches school they intend to stay here until to ward the last of the month gene taylor son of mr and mrs clayton taylor left tuesday noon tor for salt lake city and induction into the U S armed forces he was the only on to be called from paro wan to make up the august quota FOR RENT partly furnished basement apartment at M A burton bartons Bur tons s |
