Show county ahead of state in E bond sales iron county is ahead of the sta state in sales of E bonds in the seventh war loan drive according to latest latent reports with total sales running just over the mark according to L N marsden county drive chairman this places iron county at about 87 per cent of its quota with official sales of E bonds set at against a quota of in addition to this worth of bonds have been reported as sold leaving about yet to go before the county reaches its quota and mr marsden who was here contacting some of our largest buyers on thursday morning stated that he felt sure the quota would be reached before the drive ended the state as a whole has just topped the 75 per cent mark in the drive but parowan carowan much to brag about in its purchase of bonds with only slightly over one half of its quota pta reached and almost a dead certainty that the quota of won wont t be reached cedar city has reached and passed its quota of and mr marsden hopes that sales there in the next day or two w will 11 put the county over all bonds purchased in the county up to the night of june 2nd and I 1 will be counted on the quota in the contest for the title of war bond queen miss G gayle ayle alice baker of cedar city won out over mrs connie W halterman of this city at the war bond show in cedar city last tuesday night in a close contest she will represent the county in in the state finals on july 3 and ath in salt lake city the final score in the contest was miss baker points mrs halterman points the contest was decided on points earned ahr through ough percentage of town quota percentage of county quota and queenly qualities at the close of the town contests cortesis all 11 bonds sold by other con contestants te went over to the town winner amich made the following score for each of them miss baker had bond sales totaling to her credit which represented per cent of the town quota of mrs halter man had in sales to her credit against a quota of or only per cent of quota miss baker was awarded 29 points and miss halterman 28 points for this in county quota percentages the winner had credit for per cent of county sales and mrs halterman only per cent of the county quota this gave miss baker another 29 points to mrs holtermans Halter mans 28 in the judging for qualities miss baker won first with two judges voting for her and ana one for mrs halterman under the table for scoring this part the winner received 1934 points and the loser 1867 points thus the totals were as stated above judges were the mayors of the two communities and a representative of the motion picture exhibitors of the state which with the salt lake tribune sponsored the contest at the close of the contest each contestant which entered the race at the start was presented with a 25 war bond with mrs holtermans Halter mans being given to her by the bank of southern utah the program for the show that evening was a double feature pic ture ure with musical numbers by the parowan carowan victory chorus and the ladies adies chorus from the cedar service mens wives club |
